hope husky doesn't mean tragic "Dope" vocals

You know it is and I am so excited! And you will too...

Oi vey...this thread is ONE BIG MESS.

Let me start by saying I can totally understand how many here have literally no idea what "husky" vocals mean. Husky is normally not an adjective used to describe the vocal timbre of pop artist. You normally hear it used to describe the voices of jazz, country, R&B, and soul singers. Normally, a husky voice could be described as one that if full, deep, soulful, with the perfect amount of raspiness. Honestly, a raspy voice is definitely a synonym for a husky voice and can be used interchangeably.

I'm going to reiterate a point many here have already made which is...a husky voice is NOT, I repeat, is NOT a "Dope" voice. I would characterize the "Dope" vocals as stylistically slurred, dopey, and intentionally messy...it correlates with the theme and lyrics. They are in no way warm and embracing, like a "hug"...the "Dope" vocals are cold and sorrowful and meant to invoke completely different emotions then one that "hugs you".

First Gaga song I would instantly connect to husky vocals would be "Yoü and I"...its full, kinda raspy, and got that warm soul that kinda "hugs you". Even IWYL has some huskiness to it.

Aretha Franklin is a singer that, to me, epitomizes a husky voice. Listen to her to get an idea of what a husky voice sounds like. You'll love it. Also Adele...just asked my bf, who sang in musical theater for forever, to name the first singer that comes to mind with husky voice and he said Adele.

All that said, I'm super stoked for PI and the album and truly think we are in for something amazing. Everything she is doing shows evolution and is right align with a lot of my taste preferences. CANT WAIT!

Hoping PI will likely sound something like this (but darker, if that makes any sense)...

It's the only song on Mark Ronson's most recent album with a female featured vocalist. Wouldn't be mad.

Im thinking or hoping hes referring to Gagas vocals at the DNC as well as that little impromptu Born This Way vocal she did for the foster children in south america. That is a ****ing husky rock n roll vocal and if this album is filled with those touches than my hearts going to drop out of my ass and ill fall in love with her music in an entirely different way.

If her voice sounds "husky" im not into it. If Perfect Illusion serves raspy drunk-sounding vocals, ala Dope and most of ARTPOP im checking out.

husky in relation to gaga means rock n roll in my book. some classic near-joplin vocals.

Lol dope vocals aren't husky

This. Dope is more mopey and dramatically sedated and somber.

I'd say Dope has more glam rock vocals than husky. Husky would be more along the lines of Electric Chapel, I think.

Electric Chapel in the verses is really thin-voiced, but actually as she gets more into it her vocals get fuller, you're right. I suppose.

The vocals being fuller is actually better for live performances because if any of you notice, she seems to really struggle live with songs that she cant really use her vocals on like Poker Face or Heavy Metal Lover. Anything thats thinly voiced seems to be a challenge for her.

i mean reading your comments husky refers to Adele's voice so i'm okay with that.

Thanks for your input tho, GunninMan.
