Janet fans drop 100 receipts for Hall of Fame induction

Yeah tbh, I agree with @JDi. Half of those "reasons" are a reach. I'm sure Azealia Banks charted in Bosnia 3 years ago, so lemme go ahead and make a video pleading to recognise her status for "International Queen of Rap". I mean, really?

I do absolutely agree Janet needs to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but let's not go overboard with the praise. She is NOT the "Queen of Pop". That title is Madonna's and you all know it. Yes, I'm a Madonna stan, thus I'm defensive, but there is simply no argument. Madonna's sales, cultural impact and tour grosses are ironclad, you can try to debate them but they are there regardless so why even bother?

Let's not forget Janet Jackson, during an interview in the early nineties, was asked about Madonna and said "I think that what I do has class to it." Madonna was pushing boundaries and re-defining popcareers for women at the time. Yet Janet had to throw her little shade, but still released her R&B Erotica (Velvet Rope) in 1997 and went scantily clad/nude herself for countless photoshoots and appearances in the years after. Comical, no? Kinda reminds me of that time Katy Perry tweeted "using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke" when Alejandro came out, but still went to the Grammy's in 2014 with a huge cross on her chest, attended the 2014 MET Gala dressed as a Biblical figure with a Cathedral-like dress and cross earrings, not to mention her entire speech about being a pastor's daughter turned sexy popstar. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

What Janet did for African-American women in popculture is undebatable, but what Madonna did for women in general is far more of an achievement because even a woman like Janet, who was in a similar position to Madonna, felt the need to "come for her" and basically slutshamed Madonna.

Another reason, besides the numbers, why Madonna is recognized as the Queen of Pop and Janet is not, is because Madonna has consistently released vastly different albums and visuals throughout her entire career under the "pop" umbrella. Like a Virgin and Ray of Light are both considered pop albums but they sound like complete opposites. LAV is funky eighties pop and ROL is eerie, industrial new-wave with techno and trance influences. All of Janet's albums are considered R&B. The Velvet Rope does stand out as her "Dark&B" album but, while being an evolved version of R&B, it is still R&B. All For You is her most "pop" single, hence it's success probably.

So if anything, call her the Queen of R&B but she is NOT the Queen of Pop. The numbers, the impact, the acclaim and the back catalogues speak for themselves here.

The defensiveness :deadbanana:

I'm not even going to bother reading any of this if it's just a list of Madonna's accomplishments. I'm well aware of them, love her. I don't care who the hell is the ONE AND ONLY Queen. I'd call Janet the Queen of Pop, I'd call Madonna the Queen of Pop, I'd call Gaga the Queen of Pop. It's really a dumb title.

You are taking this far more seriously than I am.

Well, you are a moderator, aren't you? So you just go about and quote posts without even reading them? Says a lot don't you think? If you were to bother and actually read my post, you'd see it isn't a listing of Madonna's achievements. But thank you anyway Bebe.

Yes I am a moderator. I only skimmed through your post and saw you talking about

"What Janet did for African-American women in popculture is undebatable, but what Madonna did for women in general is far more of an achievement"

"Another reason, besides the numbers, why Madonna is recognized as the Queen of Pop and Janet is not, is because Madonna has consistently released vastly different albums and visuals throughout her entire career under the "pop" umbrella."

and

"So if anything, call her the Queen of R&B but she is NOT the Queen of Pop. The numbers, the impact, the acclaim and the back catalogues speak for themselves here."

And very quickly realised that we were on different wavelengths. I quoted you to tell you that I'm not interested in some giant argument about who is the one true reigning Queen of Pop and who is the most iconic, impactful, better artist just because I said "Queen of Pop !!"  I'm not interested in having some stan war over some petty competition. I'm not taking this as seriously as you.

All I really needed to see was the page you wrote and your sassy gif to realise this wasn't a conversation I was interested in having with you. All I needed was to see you writing an essay about why Madonna is the Queen of Pop and Janet Jackson isn't to know that you were taking my original comment far more serious than I had intended,

Either way, this petion won't do anything.

There are petition before this, yet it is still ignored. Let alone amateurish and reasonings that are predictable like this one.

Is it really a big deal though? There are musicians who are inducted but refused to attend because they sees this as something manufactured.

As one member of The Monkees once said,

"It is a private enterprise. It seems to operate as a business, and the inductees are there by some action of the owners of the Enterprise. The inductees appear to be chosen at the owner's pleasure. This seems proper to me. It is their business in any case. It does not seem to me that the HOF carries a public mandate, nor should it be compelled to conform to one"

And sure enough, acvording to reports by FoxNews with former member of the comittee, it is a business:

"Record companies have been getting a bill every year from the foundation of $8,000 or $10,000 apiece. They're starting to question what it's for — just for giving the dinner. Record companies are having massive layoffs this year. The money could go elsewhere. These were handshake deals made long ago, and now there is resentment building up."

And they are also got a letter from anonther former member of the comittee, the report can still be read here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/2001/04/04/fox-411-hey-madonna-girls-already-knew-how-to-commit-violence.html

But you knew damn well what you were doing in posting your original comment and replying to my gif with your sassy gif, didn't you? Isn't that called flamebait @Bebe? Isn't that what you're giving out WP's for on the daily?

But take a seat now @jojuun, because MJ is here to end the argument. :awesome: :gaycat:

Look I'm sorry I offended you. It wasn't my intention. It seemed like we where just having some cheeky fun sending those gifs to each other. I wouldn't warn any of the comments either of us have made, none of them seem like flamebait

From my point of view I was just praising Janet, you replied with a tongue in cheek gif of Madonna and so I responded with a gif of Janet in the same spirit. I didn't expect my original comment or any of this to provoke an argument of any kind.

When it was clear that it was provoking you I tried to clarify what I meant from my comments and that I didn't mean for my comment to be taken that seriously.

Again, I'm sorry if I offended you. I'll leave it at that, have a good day :)
