She is every genre and can do whatever she wants and make it GOOD. Pop can be more than one thing, and Gaga makes pop that she likes. And I love her pop music, so Gaga is pop in a good way!

Until 2013, she was the most "pop" popstar :reductive:

Nowadays, she's anything but a "pop" popstar :madge:

REALITY

I wouldn't say she's the least "pop pop star", but I would say that she definitely doesn't fit the "pop star" that we all think of. When I think of "pop star", I think of Katy Perry; Taylor Swift—though she did start out in country; Selena Gomez, etc. Gaga doesn't fit a certain mold, and although she became famous of her pop music, I don't think that she necessarily is or is not a "pop star".

She's certainly had many more influences besides pop, rock and jazz are core examples of that. She's going to be labelled a "pop star" regardless, though. It's not like when you say "Lady Gaga" people think of Cheek to Cheek or anything, they think of Just Dance, Bad Romance, Poker Face, Alejandro, etc.

She's never going to not be considered a pop star, but she may be considered other things if she decides to go on and do other things besides pop music. For example, if she decides that she wants to continue doing acting gigs, which I believe she is, she may become a well-known actress, and so on and so forth.

The more someone tries to make Gaga an "outside of the box" artist, the more she appears to be trapped in one.

If we limit her "group" to say Katy Perry, Britney, Demi etc. then yeah, I suppose you could say she's more experimental with her sound(ish). If you start comparing her to artists that she shares the chart with though... she's nowhere near as experimental as a lot of them. Even an artist like Justin Bieber has evolved his sound further than Gaga has from debut to last release.

I've never cared for trying to place Gaga above or below other artists. Enjoy the music or don't, no one cares.

I think Gaga has done much more evolution than that. Justin is simply evolving with the trends.

Since Born This Way, I feel, she has departed from being a popstar into being a full-fledged, unequivocal artist. She has pushed her career into such a wide array of avenues, and I truly believe her when she says that commercial success comes secondary to her. Whether it's composing an electronic dance album, or a singing alongside a living legend, or essaying the leading role of a hit TV show, she never gives anything less than 100%.

Stans of other artists would have a field day with that statement, but it's true and they can stay pressed.

Debut:

Last release:

JD sounds nothing like BR, BR sounds nothing like BTW, BTW sounds nothing like Applause and Applause sounds nothing like Anything goes... In my book versatile = Gaga. Let's hope LG5 can allow us to discover another side of Gaga.

I mean she really isn't. I feel like the ARTPOP era could make you think different considering how its main purpose was to change pop music, but i feel like she's always kinda been this born to be Pop Star.

Her influences tho (like David Bowie) are interesting tho. She's definitely not limited to pop music and well rounded, but she isn't the least pop popstar.
