Michael Jackson is the most relevant pop star of 2016

Seriously, guys... MJ's songs from 20 years ago summarize 2016 perfectly. And in particular, I'm talking about "They Don't Care About Us"...

...the song itself is about racial injustice and oppression of underprivileged society. And the video takes place in a prison. It is the music video embodiment of #BlackLivesMatter. He's rallying for all of us who have been oppressed by the supposed "freedom" offered by America.

...but that video wasn't enough.

20 years ago, MJ decided to make a second video with this song about the poverty in Rio De Janeiro.

Does it get any more 2016 than this folks???

MJ was literally 20 years ahead of his time.

(PS. the original idea for this post came from listening to the brilliant Bevy Smith on SIRIUS XM Radio Andy).

I agree with the OP, but I don't agree with the title :rip:

Yes, it's very relatable, but it's a song similar in depth to TIHTY, it's basically applicable to ANY situation.

Umm yeah he sure is for eternity but like this year? :awkney:

That's exactly what I mean, tho... These 2 videos (for the same song, 20 years ago) perfectly mirror the headlines of 2016.

- #BlackLivesMatter
- poverty in Rio De Janeiro (home of the 2016 Olympics)

Yeah but honesty, I don't think MJ was the best candidate for this song....

I think he was tbh. The HIStory album was full of songs like this. Michael was pissed about society and about how people were treating him personally (since this was after the 1993 allegations). Scream, They Don't Care About Us, This Time Around, D.S., Tabloid JunkieMoneyEarth Song, and songs that approached the topic at a sadder and more personal level like Childhood and Stranger in Moscow. He spent so long showing a loving and hopeful face, really believing the world was going to change that all the negative emotions spewed out all over this album. It's an angry, paranoid masterpiece and TDCAU is its signature song :nick:

Billionaires are a cancer. Even the ones you like.
