This whole thing seems really risky indeed. Now I'm not that worried about Gaga's performance but pretty much everything else.

You spent time on this thread, and seriously I'm loving all the information. So, thank you for this. But, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. The "first time director" thing is not a valid reason for it flopping. Ben Affleck was considered a laughing stock after Dare Devil, but still kept on keeping on. He went onto director Argo a couple years later, which won the oscar for best picture, and had great reviews. Ever since then, he's basically been gold. I can think of so many actors turned into directors of big movies off hand. Clint Eastwood, Ron Howard, Robert Redford, even George Clooney has directed. Some great directors have come from originally being actors. I'm not saying that means Bradley will be a great director, but I'm saying that isn't a reason to contribute to it potentially failing.

For me, the writer is the biggest concern. Yes, this writer definitely hasn't done anything solid, but also at least we've heard of movies. He could of gotten a writer that hasn't had a single movie hit theaters. I'm not saying this is a good thing by any means, but still. I'll wait until the trailer comes out to judge. I'll wait until more cast members are added and see what this movie can have potential to be.

Totally agree with you on the director thing. (Argo was a great movie by the way ) Like I said, I'm not totally dismissing Bradley Cooper -- for all we know he could turn out to be one of the best directors ever. 

But I think it's more the combination of all of the things I listed that makes this movie seem especially risky:

A first time director + a badly reviewed screenwriter + producers whose movies (despite being box office hits) consistently receive mixed/negative reviews

But yeah, we'll have to wait and see

I don't get why Bradley Cooper couldn't pick a better writter for the script? Like did he check his resume before hiring him? All his movies are critically panned. Now it's pretty sure the movie is going to suck.

Bradley Cooper knows what he's doing. First time directing a movie by himself but he has the experience to do it. He's one of the most successful actors out there.

Definitely. I'm with you on that. I'm just hoping for a strong cast on this one and (hopefully) a better script than what has come from this screenwriter.  I need a prayer circle right now.

Btw, James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy and it was his directorial debut and we know that movie received well and grossed very successfully. I have faith in Bradley, it's not like he's only been in the business for two years, he's a veteran actor and he has seen tons of directing work and has been nominated for Oscars before for his PRODUCING and ACTING work.

Even Gaga made her music video directorial debut with Marry the Night, and subsequently with G.U.Y., guess what? Both of them received well critically. Strictly speaking, Gaga also contributed to the directing of the amazing Judas video. So let's not hinder people from taking chances, shall we? #DreamsDoComeTrueIfYouAreNotAfraidToMakeMistakes

I'm just gonna add that his co-stars, Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale and Amy Adams were all nominated as well.

Not saying it's a guarantee nomination, but Bradley is going to EXPOSE GAGA to a whole new audience with this movie, and it's utterly important for Gaga to give it an attempt.

Honestly, the only thing Gaga needs to do with this film is prove she is a solid film actress. It's absolutely a showcase for her performance skills. A huge failure won't be blamed on her. It is Cooper's project, after all. However, even if it is not received well Gaga could very well be and that is a win. It's a first step into major movie roles.
