Why did Gaga hold back on the release date?

It seems weird to me that Gaga doesn't not know the release date of the new single. The song is done. She's already performed it live. So all this vagueness regarding dates and the title indicates to me that perhaps we've misunderstood the announcement. The album is coming in "Septemeber" and a firm date just hasn't been nailed down yet as their polishing things up and working out the promotion and marketing. And then the single is coming in August - maybe even today - as Perez adamant she's performing it at the VMAs. If she is indeed performing (the @vmas is still hinting at a big surprise performer) then what else could "September" mean? Would she really perform the single then wait a week or two to release it officially?

She may go old school, and let the radios air it first  for a week or two after VMA if she is performing before releasing it digitally, that way people may be accostumed hearing the song already before buying it. Plus you can't really rip music from radio without announcer ruining it before the song ends

2. So that when she releases it, it'll be another surprise & we'll probably trend #BUYPERFECTILLUSIONONITUNES on Twitter & it'll go #1 again. And she might even release the MV at the same time too, so as to maximize views & sales together.

I feel that this year's one is gonna be messy bcos of the vmas supposedly giving Beyonce an unlimited duration for her to perform, & their also planning to honor Lemonade or smth. So it's basically Beyonce's night even though Rihanna's also receiving the Vanguard Award. But idk... it doesn't feel right if Gaga performs this year tbh

2. Surprise Friday in September

3. They haven't picked a date ()

4. Avoiding other artists (:Katy:) from releasing a song the same day, since that seems to be a goal of :Katy:
