15jocart 2,305 Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 For the people who think that the songs that Gaga is composing for A Star is Born is LG5 or has anything to do with LG5, it doesn't. For those who don't know, A Star is Born is a film that has been made three times: one time in 1937 with Janet Gaynor, one time in 1954 with Judy Garland, and once more in 1976 with Barbra Streisand. If you don't know those names, just be glad that Gaga is respected enough to even be listed with them, let alone play a role that all three have given life to. Now, for the music. The Garland and Streisand versions of A Star is Born are movie musicals (the Gaynor version is just a regular film). The Garland version is musically similar to Garland's other works (think The Wizard of Oz or Meet Me in St. Louis). It is your classic mid-century movie musical, like Singin' in the Rain or The Sound of Music (although the latter was originally a stage show). The Streisand version of the movie has completely different songs, which is unusual for a remake/revival of a musical, movie or otherwise. The songs are mostly 70s pop ballads with some rock influences or rock songs. This begs the question, what will Gaga and Bradley Cooper's version look like? Well, I'd say anything similar to Gaga's past discography is off the table with the exception of Speechless and Brown Eyes (quasi-rock ballads). I'm sure both Gaga and Cooper know that they are touching sacrosanct material, so they won't put EDM songs or anything like that in it. Personally, I'm hoping for a classic musical theatre soundtrack (Gaga can certainly deliver in that area), but I'm sure whatever Gaga composes will be amazing. And the A Star is Born soundtrack is DEFINITELY not LG5...Mark Ronson and bloodpop have not been producing for a remake of a Judy Garland movie. I'm hoping LG5 comes before this, but whatever happens, the soundtrack is definitely its own thing. This is Gaga's chance to create the "Over the Rainbow" of our generation....we can do better than "Let It Go."
