Your parallel to homosexuality is another can of worms and it's dependant on if you believe pedophilia is a mental disorder or a sexual preference. 

Edit: As someone mentioned on the first page, one method would be to help prevent the act taking place in the first place through a more 'open' discussion that doesn't result in potential jail time or being ostracised.

I am a member of a group on Facebook called 'Guardians of the North'. They aim to catch paedophiles by acting like decoys and catching them out in the act. They post daily and it is quite scary how frequent their posts are. 

I do not believe that you can rehabilitate these sort of people, it is impossible. That is like saying you can cure a homosexual if it is a "mental health" problem. The only thing I agree with is having a separate building away from other offenders because the worst thing you can commit in a prisoners mind is paedophilia. They hate those kind of people and make their lives hell.

They post videos of them arriving at the places where the offenders would have 'met' the possible victims, if you get what I mean? Like, to catch them in the act. I think they set up fake profiles on social media sites to catch them and then report them to the police.

A pedophile only feels attrackted to children, and what they do is fantasize with the idea. The worst thing they can do is to have child p0rn.

A pederast is the one who actually abuses of a child.

But not every pedophile is a pederast.

And you would be surprised of the amount of pedophiles that exist. And they don't do anything... it could be say that is like people who fantasize with the idea of raping someone. But they don't go out and do it.

Only a huge minority actually do what they fantasize about.

True, but if pedos have child p0rn on their computers/phones, then those kids were obviously abused, you know? Not by the pedos with the p0rn, but by the people who recorded those videos. 

But yeah, I've seen part (not all tho) of a documentary about how pedophilia may be a mental illness and NOT a sexual preference a la homosexuality, so there may be a possibility that pedophiles CAN be treated and "cured"

but I'm not really well-educated on this topic, so I probably shouldn't say anything lol

Yes of course, we all agree that having child p0rn is illegal and should be stopped. I was just trying to mark the difference between pedophile and pederast because people here were talking about pedophiles as abusers. 

about It being a mental illness or a sexual preference... I cant say either. And wouldn't risk to make an statement about that. Not so long ago homosexuality was a mental issue... And, for example, people who like zoophilia... Is It a mental issue ir a sexual preference? We don't percieve It as pedophilia... But is it also considered a mental problem? 

It is difficult to draw the difference (if you only consider the sexual part, obviously homosexuality is more than sex). But, if the argument is that feeling attracted to a child is not natural... Being homosexual could be considered as unnatural too (see this is the main argument homophobes use against homosexuals). So... Idk. It is a hard topic but still interesting since there is A LOT of pedophiles.
