I don't get that. Rise just debuted at #3. If you're not counting that then I'm not getting the point at all. If you wanna play it that way it's a lot easier for me to play that game  This is why trying to make it a competition is not a good idea.

Prism: 80 weeks in the Top Albums chart (exited August 2015), out of the top 100 in May 2014, ca. 130.000 pure physical/digital sales in total.

ARTPOP: 24 weeks in the Top Albums chart (exited April 2014), out of the top 100 in December 2013 (despite being released nearly a month after Prism), ca. 60.000 pure physical/digital sales in total.

Let's just not play these games. You can always find ways to make someone look bad.

I think it was a joke

A joke rooted in the desire to pit two random females, neither of which the person telling the joke knows, against each other just for fun, and some weird gratification derived from seeing someone's success falter is not a good one imo.

I guess all the attacks made by other fanbases against ARTPOP were just jokes too now :nick: And now I'll get to your earlier reply

I dunno. I can imagine the song could stay in a top 10 for a week but not longer tbh. It's not even really an earworm, it doesn't really have any major catchy element in it at all to me. That is something the GP requires in my experience. That and a beat to bop to.

I don't know. It's not revolutionary, different, unique... the song just sounds bland. :duck: The lyrics are just so uninspired.

But we will just have to wait and see :unicorn:

But if you think the song is an uninspiring, bland mess then why did you expect the GP to eat it up anyway? :rip: Say what you want about the basic needs of the GP, I've yet to see a genuinely uncatchy, bland, derivative and audibly unoriginal mess be a major hit..

Well, their songs can be catchy at least. And rock bands are always allowed to repeat their shtick over and ****ing over again if they want to, they're generally not pressured at all to do something different like pop stars are forced to do if they want to survive.

But yeah, that's a good example tho :rip:

I completely disagree with this statement. I think the song sounds quite commercial in lyrics and sound.

Still can't quite get into the song after quite a few listens. I think its because (to me) its anticlimactic and doesn't build to a point but just sounds flat.

Butthe GP generally doesn't care and I'm sure they'll eat this one up like they do the rest of her singles.

Katy without Dr Luke is not Katy. The song is missing his touch. Dr Luke may be be a rapist pig but he knows how make a hit.

I have no idea what you're on. :neyde:

I only said that "Her ARTPOP era, people said?" made no sense because it implies that ARTPOP did badly when infact Applause was more successful than any Katy song in France. :neyde:

I really like this song though... is there maybe a possibility that some of you don't like it simply because its KATY? If Gaga released this, you guys would be like "YAAAAASSS GAGA".

It just implies that people were expecting Katy to have a significant commercial drop on all levels, and she reached some new highs with this single that make that prognosis questionable.

Yes, Applause had a higher peak than any Katy song in France pre-Rise but so what? Prism sold a lot more in France than ARTPOP as is proven in the post you just quoted, so then where's your argument still standing on?

It happened. Sales, streaming and radio-wise.

Within 10 days?

Wow. This is like other fanbases vs. Gaga in 2013 all over again.

We all know the ARTPOP era underperformed by her standards and people say that Katy is now due hers however considering she is setting new highs for herself with Rise then it isn't true. She is not having her ARTPOP (underperformance) era.

Considering the track is for the Olympics and there's only rumours of a possible album some time this year then it's a massive achievement. It makes sense to me.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
