Bear 7,515
I don't think he has any obligation to hug them. As the artist, it's up to him to set what kind of relationship he has with his fans and likewise, the fans can decide if they are ok with that relationship and want to follow him. i.e I think he handles these things badly and is rude, and I would personally struggle to follow him. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you can't expect him to act a certain way to serve fans, but you can stop supporting him if you don't like it. There is something particularly rich about this being the opening of his own merchandise store though. Surely he anticipated this, why attend anyway if you're not going to interact with fans? Koreku 2,387
I hope that the members defending Justin in this particular case at least acknowledge that he is generally a very disrespectful and unappreciative person when it comes to his fans. You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.
Seeka 12,372
While JB could be a little more polite about what he does, I understand it. If I'm not obligated to hug my family than how am I obligated to hug these strangers? While I don't know what he's going through, I'm not going to judge him. many other artists have crapped far more on their fans than JB has. And there are people outside of the music business who sh!t so much on their fandoms you don't know what how they have fans. You all treat him likes his Satan in the flesh. Honestly there are worse things he could do.

This is so untrue and I'd be really happy if this illusion was eradicated once and for all. He's famous because of himself and his act. He's the product that an audience either loves and supports or hates and promotes by talking about him anyway (which in Bieber's case is definitely 50% of the reason for his fame). It all starts and ends with the product. That's the only core of his success, esp in his case since it was literally designed to appeal to a certain market friendly audience. Artists should never have to be expected to be nice to strangers. 'cause that's what they are. Strangers. Anyone who pretends they're more than that are either doing it to further/maintain their career, or because they have serious ego inflation. Fans who think they're more than strangers to their idol already suffer from ego inflation by default. Who do you think you are? You bought a ticket to see a play, you don't run backstage because you feel entitled to bother people when they're not working because you can't see the difference between an act and the actual person (who you don't know). Pop culture blurs the line because there's money to be made on weak people who can be fooled in a matter of seconds that their commercial relationship with someone is something genuinely affectionate on either side. I can't at this ridiculous, and downright poisonous fan culture being taken for granted on this forum. Disgusting. But what do you expect from people who stan for someone who literally banked on tying people to her emotionally via a social medium she is now slamming as empty and disingenuous - something her own fans will agree with like a parrot without realizing they walked straight into the trap. Embarrassing at best.

ItsTommyBitch 12,640
You don't have to hug anyone you don't want to just because you are a celebrity 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Embarrassing at best. I'm not condoning the fan's actions, not at all, and he certainly isn't obligated to do anything that he doesn't want to do, but respect and humbleness are simple things that people should know about. Is it difficult to say "No thank you" or "I'm sorry, but no"? It's just that the way he does things, what he says, his actions are just not humble. It doesn't matter if you're a celebrity or a regular person, being kind and being humble—which are things he preaches about—are just simple things that everyone should have. He talks about being kind, and being close to God and whatnot, but his actions tell otherwise. Yes, his talent was the catalyst to him becoming a star, but because of his following and because of the impact he's had among people through his music, his statements, etc. he's able to maintain that. Without fans or people that generally know who he is, he can't be famous. And what do you think of Gaga? She says one thing on Actors on Actors and now people all of sudden think she hates us? She doesn't hate us. She wouldn't have worked as hard as she did to become our friend. She said that she isn't "our Queen", she said she's one of us. You're making it sound like she's a manipulative snake who only cares about the music. You're essentially discrediting all she's done for us. Guest
wtf there's nothing rude about saying no to random people touching you ... i mean.. he is a distinct human being .. just because he makes pop music doesnt mean everyone is entitled to touch him ... like honestly why is that even discussed here haha
Slayer 9,227
He should probably go work at McDonald's if he hates fame this much. I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!
latina twilight 2,319
What I find wrong in his behaviour it's the fact that he promotes himself as an angel who love his fans and posts pictures with them, but then he does this kind of things. "YOU USED TO BE SO KIND, I NEVER KNEW YOU HAD SUCH A DIRRTY MIND".

I don't think you can judge without knowing what it feels like to have a bunch of tweens chase you everywhere you go. Again: who do you think you are. You probably can't even be humble and polite in a far more common situation I know I can't. 9 minutes ago, M Monstre said: She said that she isn't "our Queen", she said she's one of us. You're making it sound like she's a manipulative snake who only cares about the music. You're essentially discrediting all she's done for us. How can you fall for that omg. Anyway, I'm not claiming she's a manipulative snake, but to use one of her own phrases: I don't think I'm so stupid to think she's stupid enough to not realize that she's dragging a huge portion of easily manipulable teenagers into a commercial relationship (in a jacket of love and friendship) that only really benefits her financially. That has been Interscope's strategy from the start beyond a doubt. That does not mean Gaga doesn't care about her message, and fan interactions etc. but she damn well knows what she's doing when she's repeating as many times as humanly possible that she lives for her fans, and only wants to satisfy them, and then kindly asks them to buy her single multiple times so they can win a meet and greet with her. Come on. She's playing the game and I don't fault her for that. But I don't fault Biebs either for being fed up with the bs of pop culture, and not being able to call up the energy anymore to pretend he wants to care about what some stranger has to tell or give him. And I do fault people for feeling arrogant enough to pretend that he's in some kind of unwritten contract with his fans to treat them as more than annoying flies that any other ordinary person would've smacked dead in a heartbeat, just so they can come across as kind, wise men while actually they just love kicking Biebs in the dirt because they hate him for some a lot more boring and embarrassing reason. NewYorkCity 10,536
This might be an unpopular opinion but... yeah, at least he is honest about it. lol. If he is not feeling it... I prefer to think that when Gaga does those things is because she wants to and she feels like huging a fan, taking a picture, accepting a gift... if he doesn't, then it is ok. Edit: I mean, he is just being honest. He sells music, live entertaining, concerts... not hugs or kisses. If you don't like it just don't stan for him. If what you are looking from an idol is a hug or a kiss, and he is not giving that, it is ok. Find someone else to stan. I gotta say that what he said to the fan who throw a gift on stage was rude and unnecesary, tho.
