Erotica 34,923
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has told the BBC that Holyrood could try to block the UK's exit from the EU. She was speaking following a referendum on Thursday which saw Britain vote by 52% to 48% to leave Europe. However, in Scotland the picture was different with 62% backing Remain and 38% wanting to go. SNP leader Ms Sturgeon said that "of course" she would ask MSPs to refuse to give their "legislative consent". She added: "If the Scottish Parliament was judging this on the basis of what's right for Scotland then the option of saying look we're not to vote for something that's against Scotland's interest, of course that's got to be on the table." Luc 4,776
Do they have actual veto powers, or does she mean the ~60 Scottish MPs will vote against it in parliament?
Goosey 3,017
I know Scottish people who are very happy with Brexit. This would be unfortunate for them. teo 609
Whether or not the Brexit actually happens these politicians will have to find a way to unite their people because what's happening is not good. Like even if the situation was reversed and Remain won is it really a victory to have your people literally divided? And even the results in Scotland are not so overwhelmingly pro EU out of 4.2 million people 1.7 million voted to leave. My point is if the UK somehow stays in the EU they'll still have to somehow adress the issues of these Leave voters and find the way to explain them the benefits of the union or it won't be long until they will be facing a similar situation. Well, the Scottish people who wanted to leave that you mentioned was a miniority in Scotland as well, so if Scotland somehow gets to stay in the EU the majority of the Scottish people will get very happy Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another
