The song title misleads: the song is not about famous people, it's about perfectly ordinary people who are working and trying to get somewhere in their lives. The video fortifies that, since we see famous people in perfectly ordinary positions "performing" a perfectly ordinary act: they're sleeping.

When you connect that to the Desiderio painting the video was inspired by (where twelve random people are lying similarly) the implication becomes clear: we can never see these celebrities as normal people. The act of catching them asleep becomes an act of "exposing" them. "Catching" them as being normal people is automaticall enhanced by an almost p-rnographic dimension: we treat the bodies of celebrities like objects we can lay claim to. They can't even be seen as normal people anymore, because they are already enslaved to the ideas we force upon them.

Yet we keep missing their essence as persons because we are not communicating with them. We spy on them. And their actual lives are enfolding in their dreams, to which we have no access, because we only want to catch them in the act of being normal, and punish them for it, feel empowered by that punishment. The idea of a celebrity becomes a category, hence they're all in the same bed.

The mystery of the bodies being real or fake just adds to the theme: we want to know if that naked chick is really Taylor Swift as if the body will magically be enhanced with the idea of fame. We are seeing Taylor's boobs, how brilliant. They don't even look that good. I know I have better boobs. The game continues.

That's my interpretation. I think it's quite a lovely statement because the visual effect is immediate. We mentally cannot see that collection of people as normal people. They are performing to our fancies even when they're not conscious. We own them and we can paint them as saints (I do think Kanye sought to make a connection with the twelve apostles) or wh-res to our delight.

What the **** is happening to music? Is this really ****ing considered an art? And don't come at me saying '' back off you hater''

This is disgusting to me...How we went from artistic expression to being vulgar and attentionwhoring

Maybe it was Gaga's spread in V85 :ohno:

I seriously don't get how a Gaga fan of all fans could have a problem with considering nudity as a path to artistic expression. Like are you actually for real. Like I said on the previous page: if you think this video is artless, disgusting, vulgar and attention-wh0ring then at least have the ****ing self-respect to be consistent enough to condemn Gaga for the same things.

Nudity and eroticism have been artistic since forever, i.e: have you seen David statue? The Nude Maja painting by Goya? Bosch's Garden Of Early Delight?  Manet's Olympia? Picasso's Le Demoisselles d'Avignon? Courbet's L'Origine du Monde? Botticelli's Birth Of Venus? And so on?

The act of catching them asleep becomes an act of "exposing" them as if their physicality is the key to their essence as a human being. "Catching" them as being normal people is automatically enhanced by an almost p-rnographic dimension: we treat the bodies of celebrities like objects we can lay claim to. They can't be seen as normal people anymore, because they are already enslaved to the ideas we force upon them.

And their actual lives are enfolding in their dreams, to which we have no access, because we only want to catch them in the act of being normal, and punish them for it, feel empowered by that punishment. We glorify them as larger than life while simultaneously cursing them for being devoid of it. The idea of a celebrity becomes a category, hence they're all in the same bed.

The extreme irony is actually that Gaga made many similar statements, sometimes even in similar form throughout that era and others :air: But no, Gaga's the avant-garde genius and Kanye's the amateur tasteless attention wh0re. And then they're the ones claiming the rest of the fans aren't getting ARTPOP lmfao :smh:

It's kinda genius but boring. I wish there was more to it than just the bed scene.

Well, I guess I did assume :emma: Sorry for that.

I don't think it's right to assume that fans here are bashing Gaga for appearing nude in magazines though. That's something I have legit never seen here, while I have seen more than enough posts slamming other artists for doing the same thing. So yeah, my assumption was stupid, but assuming that you also thought Gaga was a vulgar, attention-wh0ring unartistic mess was the right thing to do, really? :flop:
