I'm curious let's just say Kanye is about vibes while Gaga is about vibin' ...and since you're not high and mighty you experience difficulties vibin' along. and maybe I don't because I don't see her as an entertainer who tries hard to be artistic or avant-garde. I see her as a genuine 24/7 artist/actress i.e. someone's who's really high on his own psyche. (I really didn't want to respond because I know you're too caught up, I mean, smart to realize how far behind you are, which is the reason I didn't explain it in my post. whoever gets it, gets it.) and about your analysis on the next page... that's a bigger reach than the ARTPOP analysis I've seen on here (from people who think they understand it.) Kanye literally thought of that in a second, decided it was cool enough, erupted in front of the people he was hangin' with and they spent the next ten minutes throwing names and ended up with mostly people associated with him and a pinch of shock factor. I was fully aware I'm looking at KimYe and a bunch of actors and I can imagine what the celebrities they're playing would be like in real life. what are you talking about? I always can. there's nothing unordinary about fame. even the grumpy old people who enjoy hating on celebs do that because they think there's nothing unnatural about it. you're making yourself sound like a JB/Selena Instagram fan. it's just a vibey visual and I kept watching even though I got bored pretty fast, so it's a success, I guess. I'm one of the people who generally defend Kanye's artistic choices and enjoy his ego, so please, don't try to once again make this about double standards like you've done throughout this thread. I'm not your ass-licking pop "stan". it's just my opinion on how easy it is for Kanye to entertain and how Gaga's ways aren't as convenient, but ultimately offer a bigger trip for the people who are here for her expressionism rather than impressionism. You don't know that. And nothing about my analysis is a reach. The song speaks for itself, the artistic reference speaks for itself. 17 minutes ago, JDi said: (I really didn't want to respond because I know you're too caught up, I mean, smart to realize how far behind you are, which is the reason I didn't explain it in my post. whoever gets it, gets it.) And how ****ing rude is that. Not to mention arrogant. Maybe I don't get it. I was asking you to explain and you came up with some barely drawn out argument that really doesn't mean anything. It all hinges on Kanye's artistic process being inferior to Gaga's and you have no way of proving that objectively like you're trying to. Anyway, don't bother to respond. I won't bother to quote you next time either. All you try to do in your posts is to make other people feel like what they have to say is inferior to your incoherent rambling which is supposed to be an expression of some genuine access to truth. If I'm too "caught up" to get it then I'm happy I am.
The Child 18,997
2 hours ago, Didymus said: The song title misleads: the song is not about famous people, it's about perfectly ordinary people who are working and trying to get somewhere in their lives. The video fortifies that, since we see famous people in perfectly ordinary positions "performing" a perfectly ordinary act: they're sleeping. When you connect that to the Desiderio painting the video was inspired by (where twelve random people are lying similarly) the implication becomes clear: we can never see these celebrities as normal people. The act of catching them asleep becomes an act of "exposing" them as if their physicality is the key to their essence as a human being. "Catching" them as being normal people is automatically enhanced by an almost p-rnographic dimension: we treat the bodies of celebrities like objects we can lay claim to. They can't be seen as normal people anymore, because they are already enslaved to the ideas we force upon them. We keep missing their essence as persons because we are not communicating with them. We spy on them. And their actual lives are enfolding in their dreams, to which we have no access, because we only want to catch them in the act of being normal, and punish them for it, feel empowered by that punishment. We glorify them as larger than life while simultaneously cursing them for being devoid of it. The idea of a celebrity becomes a category, hence they're all in the same bed. The mystery of the bodies being real or fake just adds to the theme: we want to know if that naked chick is really Taylor Swift as if the body will magically be enhanced with the idea of fame. We are seeing Taylor's boobs, how brilliant. They don't even look that good. I know I have better boobs. The game continues. That's my interpretation. I think it's quite a lovely statement because the visual effect is immediate. We mentally cannot see that collection of people as normal people. They are performing to our fancies even when they're not conscious. We own them and we can paint them as saints (I do think Kanye sought to make a connection with the twelve apostles) or wh-res to our delight. When are we gonna get married? They are performing to our fancies even when they're not conscious. We own them and we can paint them as saints (I do think Kanye sought to make a connection with the twelve apostles) or wh-res to our delight. (1) So the title of the song is ironic? What about the song itself? And the music video? (2) What exactly is a perfectly ordinary person? (3) Kanye does not communicate with his fans. He talks at them, not to them. (4) Your interpretation could no doubt fill volumes. There are aspects to your analysis that I feel are simpatico with Gaga's The Fame and The Fame Monster. The idea that anyone can be a celebrity (The Fame) is simply the reverse of the idea that celebrities are just like everyone else (Famous). Watching the video for Famous, I actually appreciate it much more the second and third time around. Not so much for what it is, but rather for what it is trying to do. Or, better put, for what it's trying to undo. Kanye is making a grand statement but he might not even aware of what it is. It's more than about fame. It's about his fame. That is, that he is the centre of his problems, and so this is his way of crying out for help. What we are witnessing is a man reacting against his own image. How? By inviting paparazzi to see his dirty laundry. But it comes with a warning: be careful, you may find something that you like. I think Kanye is seeking redemption. But from who I wonder? He has become so entangled with the Hollywood who-had-sex-with-who hype machine of secrets and lies that this is his only way to indict himself. By crucifying himself. So, I applaud Kanye. This is kind of like ARTPOP, but different, more twisted - instead of reverse - Warhol.
