A heathen is a person who doesn’t hold the same beliefs as the societal “norm.” Beliefs can mean religious convictions, or more secularly, the shared mores of society. If all his friends are heathens, they are outsiders, alienated from the mainstream. The song shines a light on the fact that everyone struggles internally with doubt. We are all heathens in one way or another. So take it slow when you meet new people. Don’t assume everyone is happy and content. Watch out. Just as the old idiom states, don’t judge a book by its cover, like this user here: 45 minutes ago, froot said: ugly band ugly song Edit: The singer Tyler Joseph struggles with mental illness and he uses his songs as a catharsis. It's important to talk about it, because no one else does.

It's important to talk about it, because no one else does. I just generally don't enjoy rock lyrics, I can't really describe why but something about them just puts me off. I didn't mean to throw the song aside as a whole but meant to convey I personally don't like it, I could've worded it better,
