Voluntary manslaughter is punishable up to 15 years. This is actually pretty severe punishment considering the crime that was initially committed against him of intentionally passing HIV differs per state but has been prosecuted at up to 25 years. The man that died intentionally transmitted HIV. The man that committed the crime only committed it after he had been severely emotionally or mentally disturbed. It might have even been involuntary man slaughter which is an intentional or negligent act leading to death and in that case the punishment of 14 years was too severe. But he probably got the extra four years for trying to cover up the evidence. At least this is the law in the US. But this wasn't in the US. So who knows. Like suicide, S&M and bareback sex. It's not only gay men, it's a man thing in general. Please let's not pretend we are not hot blooded. And please let's try to understand each other and love each other, instead of punishing all the time. I know you mean well but, please, do not generalise. Speaking for myself, I never gave in to stuff like grindr and mindless sex because even though I wanted to have sex, the risks far outweighed the benefits. So yeah, there are many straight and gay men who do not prescribe to that risk-and-reward seeking behaviour.

Anderson123 42,701
DAMN the things that you learn about the gay community. I don't go to gay clubs so I had no idea about these terms or trends but it's crazy out there.

gagaisitalian 3,573
This is a strange case. I can almost understand why he only got 14 years in prison, because if you look at this from a weird angle, he was almost acting in "self defense". I use quotations because it is illegal to not tell your partner or someone you're going to engage in sex with that you are positive for STDs. So it's not like the guy that died was attacking the guy, but he did put him in great danger of becoming ill. And in fact the guy might have ended up with the HIV already for what we know. Both men are guilty here. But I don't think anyone actually deserved to die. And the ironic thing is, had the guy not died, he would be the one facing legal action. The guy on the right was tied up (kinky sex and ****) and confessed to having HIV, and then had a drug induced seizure/overdose. The guy on the left let him die of the seizure/overdose and then went through a lot of trouble to hide it. I'm not entirely sure I have all of the facts right, it's a pretty poorly written and confusing article. I find visual prejudice/perception to be very interesting. In fact he only got 10 years in prison, not 14.
