it's honestly disgusting how you put all the blame on parents, without knowing the full story. There were "no swimming" signs ONLY and they weren't swimming. The family is from Nebraska and you can't expect all the tourists to know about dangerous waters in Florida.

I posted the link, check the other thread about the details.

I don't really care about the damn alligator, it killed a baby.

As much as this saddens me but it's neither the parents of the child or the alligator's fault. :(

Credits to the guy on my avi. Love his shirt!!!

I just cant at this thread.  I'm more surprised at how people think animal lives are equal to human lives. I'm just shocked. :saladga:  And here I thought it was a universal given that human lives are always above animals. I guess I was wrong and you learn something everyday.

I wouldnt pick my dog, no matter how much I love him, over a stranger's life if I have to save one of them in a burning building.

IF that boy was my son, I would end up being an alligator hunter or something. Well not really but I would certainly be ok with them killing the gator as a selfish act of vengeance on my part and future safety of other hard headed human beings who wades through water they are not supposed to.

On the other hand, I do understand how people say they should not have killed the other alligators and not just the one that dragged the kid to drown. True they could have just relocated them but its scary to think of this incident happening again.

Human life = animal life if you ask me. In my experience, I've never had a single problem with an animal while I've had nearly nothing but problems with people. That's just me though and I know that's a very unpopular opinion, which I'm ok with. Though, I don't understand why you're saying it's an "unprovoked attack"? That's a weird way to word it...Gators are huge apex predators and this one saw the kid as a prey item. It's just what they do? It's not like it was a deranged and aggressive beast, it's just an animal doing what it does. Trying to find a meal and survive.

No one is at fault other than the people who build this stuff where their habitats used to be and then they don't take proper precautions to make sure these tourists know to stay away from water that might have these animals in it. Them and the people who get too close or even feed wildlife so they spend more time around humans making situations like this more frequent.

I don't know why this "human life vs. animal life" debate is even coming up tbh. Not to be too blunt or insensitive but the kid isn't going to be brought back with the gator's death and if the kids' parents had a means to kill him/her at that moment to save their child's life I doubt anyone in their right mind would be against that. Members expressing sympathy towards the animals being killed are people who don't understand what seems to be a revenge killing of an creature doing what it's instincts tell it to do.

That's really unfortunate...but a sad truth is that it's best that this one is taken out and all of the others relocated. God forbid it attacks again...these absolutely beautiful animals can't take all of these attacks that do nothing but demonize them in the public eye. Sadly, they don't listen to reason so we have to do our best to manipulate their numbers down to the behavior and location of individual animals. It's hard, next to impossible, to try and conserve their numbers and habitats when people view them as "child eating, blood thirsty monsters" when they're just predators doing what predators do. They don't kill to kill, they kill to eat and survive. You can't tell them that people are off limits because we're just another animal to them and that'll never change.

  Reveal hidden contents

And it shouldn't tbh. We are animals. We're part of the foodchain. Usually at the top but if we put ourselves in the situation to be prey to another predator then you can't be surprised when we're hurt or killed for it. Circle of life. No matter how hard we try to put ourselves into a delusional state of mind, we're not above nature, we're part of it.

Long story long, this kid's death could've been avoided with more caution and clarity on Disney's end and that's about it. You can't demonize an apex predator for hunting and you can't blame the parents for not knowing "no swimming" means "stay away from the water, there might be alligators". At this point, these debates serve absolutely no purpose aside from getting everyone pissed off at everyone else. Let the kid rest. I hope his parents find peace and I hope these animals' reputation isn't too tarnished by this unfortunate event.

I meant unprovoked in the sense that there are no present indications the child, or the parents, were actively pestering it therefore agitating it to the point of grabbing the kid and running off. :emma: And also, I agree about Disney needing better signage. Yes people should know that Florida has gators running amuck in the wild, but people literally lose their ability to think rationally when they step on property, it's like they thing everything that exists in the outside world doesn't exist here. There needs to be signage put up immediately that says "STAY OUT OF WATER: ALLIGATORS!"

"through water they are not supposed to"

Doesn't this answer everything? The HUMANS weren't to be near the water, the alligators were doing exactly what they would do in the wild... because they are wild animals. You wanting to be an alligator hunter would just show what type of a person you are, killing living creatures for fun.

"I do understand how people say they should not have killed the other alligators"

Well usually you don't get punished if you do nothing wrong. The other alligators killed were just living in the water and hadn't attacked any humans. According to your logic, next time theres a shooting, the police should kill the murderer and a few people similar to the murderer because they may be dangerous, despite having no direct relationship in the shooting.

It's very sad the boy had to die. I feel it is the parent's fault. It said no swimming. This did remind me of the Gorilla incident where the media wanted CPS and charges against mom and dad. However, the dad was not even at the zoo. Yes, this case does remind me of race. I do not think the family should sue Disney. They told you to not get your behind in the water. The two parents should have been watching their child. I believe everyone dies when it's time their time to go anywhere and anyhow... so it truly wasn't nothing they could do, which kinda eliminates my argument. Overall, that's my take on things.

No one here is saying the alligator life is more important than the child's life lmaooo What we are saying (at least most of us) is that an animal should not be killed because it acted according it's instinct. They are animals, they aren't smart enough to think before doing something WE consider terrible.. That's their nature, that's how they act. Instead of killing them they should just move all those gators somewhere else, a place for wildlife. Now, if you're watching a reptile eating your children then you're on the right to ****ing kill the bitch to save your son/daughter, but why afterwards? the thing is done and there's no going back.

Wait...so the child has NO SIGN at all of being captured by an alligator? Or it does? Because honestly, if the child simply drowned and his body has no sign of teeth neither in his clothes I think that it's legit to qiestion the whole situation, especially the father..

I thought it was common knowledge that Florida is full of loose and captive alligators; especially in the southern regions.

This is fully human error, imo the parents' fault especially with warning signs around and if they saw that no else was around that area.

Also believe the other alligators shouldn't have been killed.
