Noah 26,310
Everytime I look at old Gaga Videos (Pre The Fame), I see her hitting F5's with ease. She had a buttery and light tone and she had really good control of her vocals and could hit a G5 live. During 'The Fame' Era, I noticed, how she sometimes struggled hitting D5's and E5's. Her Vocal Tone seemed really weird during some live performances, her belts seemed very strained. During 'The Monster Ball' (imo), Gaga slowly stopped drinking THAT much Alcohol (notice how her speaking voice changed? Her Vocal Chords recovered). You can try to compare 'Love Game' Performances from 2009 and 2011's Monster Ball and you can hear an obvious difference. With 'Born This Way', Gaga gave us some great E5's in 'Marry The Night' and her tone became a bit lighter. Now, moving forward to ARTPOP, Gaga started going a bit higher again with her belts (several F5's in Sex Dreams and Venus) and the infamous F#5 in Do What u Want. During the DWUW Performances, she was able to hit C5's and D5's with such ease and just really effortless. Her tone got a bit more 'dramatic' you could say. Also, during the ARTPOP Ball, Gaga experimented with her falsetto during IWALY. So, now to the Era, that was the best for her Voice - 'Cheek To Cheek'. Whether you love or hate the Album or the Music, it really shaped Gaga's Voice again. She's getting more and more comfortable with her higher Belts. During the Oscar 2016 Performance, she served many great E5's. The Only thing that I dislike, is her really dramatic kind of way (Dope, Til It Happens To You, National Anthem) to sing. It get's really exhausting to listen to after a while. I wish she would keep that for her Jazz Performances and use her 'old' belting technique as SGB to serve some Pop Belts. All in all, the big reveal is, that Gaga's Voice got damaged a lot because of the Alcohol and Drugs, and she's finally recovering from that. Spoiler For all of you that don't know - Alcohol and Drugs dehydrate the Vocal Chords and irritate them, which means during live singing, she needed to strain a lot of vocals in order to have control over them.  ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡

nativenewyorker 1,190
You can blame the hoarse voice from The Fame on cocaine and exhaustion. She seemed much healthier during Born This Way until she became exhausted again. Then during ARTPOP she was smoking a lot. I think the healthiest we've heard her voice is like the Again Again video from 2006 or during C2C. Now with LG5, we'll finally get to hear her voice shine.
hoodrat 299
It's kind of miraculous how well her voice has recovered since 2008. For whatever reason she sounded so hoarse in those early live performances. Compared to the Sound of Music performance, most people would not believe that it was the same woman lol
