I really like your imput, and your threads... Bumping this cos I don't want this to flop.

I always thought she would go back to her "roots" and make a rock album at some point of her career, and since we don't know that much about the album yet, who knows if it's the direction. Many have already pointed out that she in deed is a rockstar in pop world, and it's now wonder so many rock legends like her and people who dislike pop and only listen to metal or rock, like her.

It's an interesting topic! I'll contribute more when I have more time.

I believe when she said the artRAVE was an ode to the end of the beginning of her career there was some truth in that. It is no lie that she is a rockstar stuck in a pop star's body. She wasn't even suppose to be making pop music and wouldn't be if not for Fusari. It's also very telling that she seems happy performing jazz these days above all else. Very happy. Compare her singing 'Bad Romance' during the artRAVE to now when it is a jazzy ballad. Even the last artRAVE. One can argue she was in a bad place during the first few shows but she was just about fine by the end yet the same result was presented. Similarly, I've never seen her as comfortable as I have when she covers rock songs. I think there's a part of her that will always love pop music as it stands now but she came and conquered; what is there left for Gaga to do? I doubt she wants to reclaim her throne. She's not the type of person to need to be at the top of pop's hierarchy for years to come. I think Ronson x Gaga will be the first taste of what's to come. She isn't going to jump from one genre to the next but we'll see a new, immense direction. It's undeniable this record will be influenced by David Bowie and jazz; what else is yet to be decided but analog and live instruments paint a pretty picture. LG5 is going to really say everything she hasn't during this down period. Bowie was known to reinvent himself several times through his career so I don't know why Gaga is so different. Can you imagine if fans at the time pleaded for him to return to his Ziggy Stardust sound/look as much as Gaga fans do for TFM/RedOne? I wish this fanbase could appreciate her chameleon nature and get ready for the next phase in her career. It's absolutely unfair how many people want to chain her to a box for the rest of her life.

We all know that 'Stefani' is a rocker at heart. But this guy is talking about her when she was about twenty. If she had decided to go the "piano rock" (is there even a genre called that?) route I doubt, no...am convinced, she wouldn't be even a fraction as successful as she is today. You'd have to go to cheap bars on Lower East Side to watch her sing in bad 80's rocker spandex to listen to her! And you'd probably wouldn't even enjoy her.

That'd be part of the genius though!

Now she can make that music and be successful because she has that platform and because she has the financial security now to not care about it underperforming.

Maybe it's a bit too far that she planned her whole pop career as a way to get to the top and then finally be truly creative, but I'm sure it has at least something to do with it. I remember in 2008 or 2009 she said something about that she chose pop music because you can reach so many people. I dunno. It's something that's on my mind.

Amen to all of that :applause: 100% agreed.

I remember when she said something about "going back to her roots" for LG5 and fans were all "yay, RedOne! The Fame!" and I was thinking "you probably need to go back further than that."

Fusari couldn't get her signed as a singer/songwriter/rock artist.  That's why he convinced her to go Pop.  But there is no doubt that pre-Fusari she was all about rock.  Fusari had to work hard to convince her according to things he's said in the past.   But she eventually bought into it, and at the time I think she was more concerned about getting a career in music than in the particular genre.  Plus I think she bought in to what Pop could offer in terms of the art around the music.

Unfortunately the extravagant pop she ended up producing denied her one thing she probably craved above all else... respect as a musician and vocalist, particularly from other musicians.  She's had to fight to prove that and against the "she's all about image" stigma.
