Did fame ruin Gaga?

Her peak was arguably bigger than Britney's and her impact on pop culture at the time was simply undeniable. In her most recent interview she talked badly about fame and said it's one of the most isolating things ever. On top of that she's always talked badly about being famous and how people always want to see someone fail, etc.

From 2012-onward it seems like Gaga was on a downward spiral and she was quite lost for a bit during ARTPOP in 2013. Her music career suffered as her sales and chart positions declined, along with concert ticket sales, star power, and popularity. Did fame have something to do with ruining the Lady Gaga persona we all knew and loved?

she was overexposed. her rise to fame was almost too quick. she gave us too much "crazy" all at once, and so much of it that people began to take what she considered art as a joke. i hate to say it but she also began to make a caricature out of herself.

but that doesn't mean she won't bounce back, i just personally believe that her peak is over and the fan base just needs to accept that.

I think she is learning to live with fame and find happiness. I personally believe we haven't experienced her true peak yet.

yes but she knows it and what she's doing right now (that most consider an extension of her alienation from "fameGa") is actually a way to get back where she was at 8 years ago. she seems more centered now but I am sure she knows she's most centered when she's chaotic. there's the chaos angel thing going on which even if it isn't the name of the album or a song title, is definitely the main theme and where she's at in her life at the moment. cultivating the chaos in order to gain back "the" fame.

I believe her artistic peak is yet to come, but her commercial peak is long over and call me a pessimist but I don't see her ever coming close to that :madge:

Same here... I feel like there might be an issue with the commercial peak department. But I'm sooo sure she has yet to prove her artistic ability.

She definitely became The Fame Monster. She became what she grew up to be afraid of.

this was an interesting read, I'm waiting to see what she will do next

I don't think she was afraid of the "monsters" of fame back then. she was afraid it will ruin her eventually but she had decided to play the "monster" herself. she was having an affair with the sickness of fame, writing a bad romance. and hopefully, she'll write another chapter now.

Bonkers

The notion that she's ruined is bizarre.

That's false, Britney was followed by TONS of paparazzis everywhere she would go. The whole world talked about her 24/7. Gaga just had a peak a little close to Britney's but Britney had a slightly bigger one.

I wouldn't say fame ruined her - at all. Fame seems like a tough challenge and while a lot of celebrities can't keep up with it, Gaga seems like she's learning how to live with it in a healthy relationship. Sure, she had a few downs, but it's astonishing that she's still up there after being one of the (if not THE) most talked about individuals for years.

I would not call 2007 Britney's peak... I was referring to her peak in popularity in 2001.
