Well MTV doesn't even play videos anymore so it doesn't even matter. I'm sure there are more seasoned icons who deserve this kind of award. Possibly someone like Marilyn Manson or bands like No Doubt, or even Blondie, who may not be as popular as they once were but are still worthy of a lifetime achievement award.

I deliberately used this word not to infuriate many of you guys, but frankly, I could have said "great": her videos are entertaining, cohesive, well-directed. It's pop music, what more do we need? You know, in the current state of the industry where everyone thinks he's an artist and everyone makes the same generic music videos, borrowing from filmmakers way more talented than they are, "decent" is sometimes more than enough. At least it is for me, so congrats to Katy.

Missy Elliott should get it and I don't say that as a pressed Gaga fan, I say that cause she's overlooked. Give Katy one in like 5 years or something. Missy seriously has had the best videos since the nineties, using effects no one was using back then and single handedly laid the blueprint for female rappers and their videos. Totally underrated legacy.

Fair enough...but the problem is that this is a vanguard award, a kind of next level thing... Katy could be anything but next level, let alone vanguard.
