US with RIAA

surely like:

The Fame - 4x platinum to 7x platinum
The Fame Monster - 1x platinum to 3x platinum
Born This Way - 2x platinum to 3 platinum
ARTPOP - Gold to 1x platinum

7.5x platinum to 14x platinum.

As much as I love streaming I just feel like streaming and Internet (because of leaks) ruined the music industry..

(Cough;cough) sales + Streams

I honestly don't like the idea of Sales plus streams.

Yep, I hear ya, babe.  I don't like that one bit at all, either.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

How is she a fraud? We all know that Pokerface hasn't really sold 10 Million. We are in the era of units not album sales. Everyone has been updating their certifications. Yet everyone here praised Gaga to the heaven and back when she got a diamond certification for PF.

Nope Pokerface is already certified 10 million including streaming. It has only sold about 7.5 million.

I don't really understand why people say streaming ruins the industry :duck: I totally agree that streaming services need to pay more to artists, but it seems like a natural step for me. Sure it completely changes the landscape of charts and certifications, but that doesn't really represent the actual economics and profits of the industry.

Record sales have been declining for years (maybe even decades) before anyone even knew what Spotify was due to online piracy. Most of my friends have Spotify subscriptions, and the majority of them have never bought an album. Before it became a 'thing', they would just listen illegally. At least they are contributing at all, right?

I think we're still very much in the baby stages of streaming, and as it grows it will (hopefully) become way more profitable for the industry. Artists being able to inflate their certifications like this doesn't mean the industry is dying, it's just bragging rights.

I never saw anyone on here being so worried about the "industry dying" when illegal downloads were killing sales year by year. Streaming at least contributes something. It's only now that artists people don't like are finding success in this new, particular avenue. I personally see it as a compromise to battle piracy that will only grow.

True, I see it now. At least the streams contribute to the chart position and certifications

"15M is just TEA+SEA WW.

Pure sales: 9M WW
Track sales:
Umbrella - 9.5M
Don't Stop the Music - 8M
Disturbia - 7.3M
Take a Bow - 4.5M
Shut Up & Drive - 3.0M
Hate That I Love You - 2.5M?
Rehab - 2.35M
Total = 37,150,000 / 10 = 3.715M TEA

Nearly 13M with sales+TEA. If you add shipments and streaming then it's around 15M"

Thanks to an ATRL member for this great breakdown. So you know.
