I can't even believe that you just said that. Katy has simply copied Gaga by thinking controversial costumes is a great way to market herself. Gaga revived avant-garge fashion reminiscent of 70s and 80s pop culture. That is why Slash, Judas, Cher, Priest, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Kiss, Cyndi Lauper, and countless other legendary artists all praise her ethic, creativity, originality and ethic. Do you seriously think that the same praise would ve directed towards, even is deserved of, a bubblegum pop, radio, soccer mom-pandering mediocre singer who appears like nothing more than a desperate rip off of a true legendary icon who revolutionised the music industry forever? Just because she has copied Gaga in countless ways in countless areas, does not justify musically or certainly artistically comparing them. It is an absolute joke. You clearly overrate her and what's worse, by bringing Gaga down to her level, show that you don't even seem to understand her entire career. as if Gaga hasn't been accused of plagiarism before either See talent here-->http://bit.ly/2eqeUxK

You clearly overrate her and what's worse, by bringing Gaga down to her level, show that you don't even seem to understand her entire career. Erm.. I see you're confusing the public recognizing someone as a legend with a debate about quality I don't care that much for Katy, she's a harmless entertainer, but it would be stupid to imply she's not one of the absolute biggest pop stars we'll know in our lifetime. Her success is growing on all levels (unlike Gaga's sadly), so that alone deserves serious attention when her future status is concerned. As for the copying claims gosh I'm so ****ing tired of this **** Katy has used her staple of "odd", retro-ish fashion (which she's known for completely isolated from Gaga's aesthetic) before Gaga hit it big on the scene, and everyone who doesn't know that just needs to take a look at her career in a serious unbiased manner to check that. Another important element everyone ignores is that Gaga's avant-garde aesthetic only seriously came to the forefront in late 2009. Most that came before that was undoubtedly unique for the time but it was not an avant-garde aesthetic. Ironically she started to really up her game fashion-wise when it was clear that the other pop girls were going to do the same. If anything, she built on the aesthetic Rihanna was building from the summer of 2008 onwards. Don't y'all remember the Disturbia video? For Rated R Rihanna built on this darker imagery and Gaga and her simultaneously started exploring darker high fashion and bolder visuals. So no, Gaga wasn't some isolated genius. She evolved over time based on the cues of the industry, just like everyone else. The idea that she changed the game is only true to an extent. Rihanna and Katy are fashion icons whether you like it or not. A quick look at fashion magazines, websites, blogs,... is enough to see that's explicitly acknowledged. I don't need you to praise Katy or whoever for being good, but to deny their impact, even just commercial (which, when sustained, is already a big deal no matter what the artistic contributions of the pop star are: legends have been made for far less) is just stupid, especially when all Monsters can come up with to solidify Gaga's exclusive claim to the status of legend are achievements that were made within the first three years of her career, after which apparently nothing noteworthy has happened for her to deserve the title. That logic just destroys itself.

And if you really think that Katy, Ariana, Minaj, all these bubbglegum acts haven't followed Gaga's lead you're just blind. And are you actually serious? Legends have called her a legend. She's been nominated for an Oscar, one a Golden Globe, which I think you'll find is recent. She went Diamond worldwide, and it's just hilarious how you dismiss the first three years of her career as old news for the basis of your argument, as if none of it matters. If anything it is even more impressive as she was just new. I'm simply pointing out that comparing the likes of Katy Perry to Gaga is ludicrous and insulting. You're completely hypersensitive to it and how dare you call me embarassing when you're comparing a mediocre plagarist to a genuine legend? You have this total preconceived misconception that I'm delusionally defending "my fave" (god awful phrase) when actually I speak as a fan of pop culture who hates seeing overrated pandering safe virtually talentless singers glorified as it is the poison in pop culture. Every post I read of yours is so childish and ignorant and you're telling me to grow up? Please. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light. I'm assuming you meant she did that by herself. 1 minute ago, Drunk Poet said: And if you really think that Katy, Ariana, Minaj, all these bubbglegum acts haven't followed Gaga's lead you're just blind. I think they have followed her lead from mid-2009 until the end of 2010. And then Gaga stopped leading. Important to remember. The pop scene went in a different direction, mostly with Rihanna, Katy and now Beyoncé at the top. Gaga held on to her niche but I doubt you can find me a convincing example of Gaga impacting the music industry post-2010. I'm not saying that makes her career less admirable or whatever. But when you're so adamant that a true legend is required to have revolutionized the entire music industry, I think you need to have more of an argument than "she inspired fellow pop stars to act and dress more weirdly for a while". Which in itself is not even that good of an argument because extravagant fashion and mv's had come and gone in the pop scene ever since the 80's indeed, but also in the early 00's. Gaga's reign simply embodies another wave like that. Now her reign is over though. So your argument doesn't stand, that's all I wanted to say. For me, continuous exceptional commercial success is enough to qualify as a pop legend. You disagreed with that, I just don't like your arguments for that disagreement, that's all this discussion is about, I'm not criticizing Gaga or glorifying her competition. I just think it's dumb to deny Katy's status as a legendary pop icon just because you think Gaga's more creative. That has nothing to do with it imo. Britney expressed desire to make an "artsy-fartsy" album. Rihanna included some powerful visual art in ANTi. Miley's Dead Petz had visuals very similar to Gaga's aphrodite and even dreads/rave concept. I'm not saying Gaga invented these things--but those I've stated happened too close after ARTPOP.
