What is not logical about it? It all makes perfect sense.

I just don't think randomly pointing to similar-ish sounds (and in a lot of cases the examples don't even have any similarity at all) in some later songs is enough to call an album avant la lettre. During the time of release no one thought BTW was innovative so I don't see how it's even possible that it was ahead of its time that way. If anything, the album is so heavily indebted to the 80s (as noted by critics) I don't think it's possible for it to be even considered a quintessentially contemporary release, automatically ruling out the possibility of it being ahead of time.

Just my opinion. I enjoy the album just fine without having to pretend it's more than it is (no diss, but I do think that's what's happening among fans and apparently some journalists, or shall I say fans in disguise), so this is no criticism of the album. Just not convinced by this particulal pedestal.

Don't post this here. People will start lecturing you about how water can't be wet because the definition of wetness means something has been covered by water.

I was looking for the tumblr post of the girl with the "WATER IS WET" tattoo thing, and one of the first things I saw was someone lecturing about how water, by definition, cannot "be" wet cause wetness is the state of being covered by water :toofunny::toofunny::toofunny:

Tresor

I've always felt this way, that must be why I never get sick of Scheisse, HML, Government Hooker etc. it's all so fresh even 5 years later.

Celebuzz :" Many things have been said about the notorious Amazon deal in which the standard edition of the album was sold for $0.99 for two days during the first week, resulting in 440,000 of the total million-plus haul. People still (!) bitch and whine about how those copies shouldn’t count, as if the 660,000 full-price units it moved in addition to the discounted units weren’t already remarkable. Five years later, the joke’s on the haters: we now live in a world in which free streams factor into chart placement (and count toward sales) and top-tier artists give their records away for free. A $0.99 price tag no longer seems too meager; in retrospect, it was shrewdly ahead of the times"

Really ahead of his time. :diane:

The journey through BTW is one of my best memory from this decade personally, love it so much.

So much shade, you need to read it : http://www.celebuzz.com/2016-05-23/lady-gaga-born-this-way-five-year-anniversary-legacy-sales-impact-review/?utm_source=share-tw&utm_medium=button

Weirdly, that article makes me sad. I miss that album and era. I miss that Gaga. It was such a wonderful time and now it feels something's missing.

As happy as I am to see Gaga grow as an artist, it was a lot more fun being a fan of hers back then. Now it feels more like I'm observing her from a distance, if that makes sense. I hope that changes when she starts promoting LG5.

Btw that's an amazing article. It's so well-written and completely nails it on the head.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

The more time goes by, the more the world will realize how important this album is.

The moment I heard for the first time the Scheiße remix from that fashion show in early 2011, I was in for one of the best ride/year I ever had. So much memories :nick:

I absolutely love that the album is seen as this obnoxious, absurd, over-the-top thing- just in the best way possible. I can't agree more lmao. It's such a loud, abrasive album, and it's so good.

The title is the best part, haha:

Five Years Later, Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Is Still An Absurd, Abrasive Achievement

Conceptually maybe, but musically no. ARTPOP's edm was already broadly used. Nothing new concerning the sound

I agree very, very much. It's such an intricate album, both in its blatant writing and also in its overall concept, but sonically it's... good, but definitely not what I was expecting.

3 points in and ready for more

But is not just the "similarish" sounds that make the album ahead of its time. Idolator states that she was one of the first, if not the first mainstream artist to provides such bold, dark, aggressive, and sinister sound in the modern mainstream. The similarish comparisons that the article provided all fit the adjectives I just mentioned even if they are not completely similar or obvious in sound. Also, BTW was not just 80s influenced. Born This Way is basically a mixture of music from the past, the present (at the time 2011), and even the future as it provided many new underground sounds not heard in the mainstream before. This basically summarizes what I am saying "but when someone of Gaga’s stature decided to cling to her inner demon, it made the pop world safe for stars at the top of their game looking to go on some truly abnormal, unexpected (and un-focus grouped) musical excursions"
