I feel like he's living this life that he doesn't want to live anymore and he's screaming on the inside and nobody's listening.

Reminds me of someone else...

Call him a hypocrite, ungrateful or whatever - and I do find these little rants to be slightly cringeworthy - but I think he has a point underneath all of this.

The whole awards show thing is pretty shallow and he's clearly struggling with fame after being in the public eye for so long. I appreciate him in this for keeping it real and not pretending to love everyone and everything going on that night. I appreciate him being honest and open about it. Gaga has also spoken a lot in the past about the fake industry schmoozing and I didn't see any of you telling her she should just quit music or imply that she's only in it for the money. Let's not forget her being done with the BS at the VMAs in 2013 and walking out.

I definitely think he's beginning to understand a lot about his position as a celebrity in the world now, and he really doesn't like it. As we've seen time and time again, that can be really dangerous and I'm genuinely worried for him.

I hope he wasn't actively rude to people at the awards, but it's quite easy to understand why you'd be so dismayed by the whole thing.

I do agree that he has a point, there is plenty wrong with the industry.

We see it time and again with child actors, etc... it doesn't seem to work out well thrusting young kids or even adolescents into the limelight. Fame is so intrusive, I feel like a person should be able to freely chose it for themselves as an adult.

It's just really sad to me. He is so talented. I wish people generally were more caring and genuine, but it's always the money that comes first.

P.S. I have been on GGD constantly for several days, and figured if this had Ben posted, I would have seen it. But indeed, it was posted, will fetch the link, and can be merged if necessary. My apologies.

If he doesn't feel like being there then he shouldn't attend them.

I agree, but I'm pretty sure artists get locked into certain deals where they are obligated to make certain promotional appearances. If he really is disillusioned by these shows then maybe during his next era we won't be seeing him at as many.

Whatever the case is, it's clear that he needs a break. But his tour goes on for another six months... I can see it getting really ugly for him this year and it's sad.

Yeah, there's a reason so many child stars go down dark paths. It's no coincidence. But I don't really know what the solution is either, tbh.

I agree, very sad :( And I think the whole thing has given him very bad anger/attitude problems that makes people unable to feel empathy for his situation. It's crazy complicated when you start to really think about it from the outside looking in - I can't even begin to imagine the kind of mess in his head. That's why I wish people would lay off him a little, but I know they never will.

Authentic : Adjective

1. not false or copied; genuine; real
2. having the origin supported by unquestionable evidence; authenticated; verified

How many writers are there on Purpose? Very authentic.

Eeek :emma: I mean I don't think his attitude towards quite a few things is good but I am worried for him. I feel like he needs a break or needs to cut off things that are bringing him sadness/anger so he doesn't bottle it up and implode & explode :ohno: It does make sense that self worth can be brought into these awards, I mean so many people judge an artist's worth by their number or lack of awards which they really shouldn't, people are more than a number :S Hope with time that he's able to dissociate them for his own good

Your know, when he won Top Male Artist, it was so awkward to me, him getting up and walking up on stage... there was something so uncomfortable, it was just oozing from him.. no smile... and his teeny tiny speech seemed really forced and insincere. So his response is really no surprise to me.

I'm sure he isn't the only celeb who feels this way... but other celebs generally don't mention it, for self preservation. It's really as if he doesn't care enough to maintain the image that was created for him. On one hand, I think "good for him" for telling it like it is, but after all his recent antics (cancelling meet and greets, forbidding fan selfies, throwing fan present back out the window), it is just that much more troubling.

It's like he is really rebelling against his career and everything that came along with it. I just hope he doesn't take it too far.

Macklemore made a song about this on his new album that no one cared about.

I love this song so much  one of my faves off the new album
