Did you think Born This Way was a track-by-track "journey" ?

I saw this post about how Born This Way is supposed to be track-by-track a journey through self-acceptance. It kind of makes the album sound more like the tour, IMO. What do you guys think?

From: http://populove.net/celebrating-born-way-journey/

“Marry The Night”

Our journey begins in dark despair. With nothing left to lose and nowhere to go, we have a choice to make! Self-acceptance begins with the choice to overcome your darkness or hide in it. When you shine light on your darkest hours, nothing can hold you back. The root of “Marry The Night” is the proud proclamation of not giving up on your life and becoming one with the darkness that once held you back.

“Born This Way”

Once you’ve married the night, you’re ready to be re-born! From this point on, you bare no prejudice and wish no harm to yourself or others. “Born This Way” is the mantra from here on out, a mantra that defeats all insecurity! If you’re ready to spread love, you’re ready to move on.

“Government Hooker”

How much are you willing to fight for what you believe in? In our new beginning,  we need to take a stand. “Government Hooker” is about the machine in us that is willing to do what we’re told and still get-erhm fu**ed. This is our time to not be what everyone wants us to be, and not do what is ‘expected’ of us! We are done confiding to someone else’s beliefs and are ready to take a stand for what we believe in!

“Judas”

You are ready for your baptism! Forgiveness is crucial to self-acceptance. In “Judas” we forgive the ‘ultimate sinner’ and realize the good that came out of his betrayal. In biblical sense, Judas betrayed Jesus and earned his title as sinner of the year, but what would have become if he refused to betray Jesus? Judas played a role in a prophecy that lead to Christianity. Forgive the “Judas” in you and trust in what will come from your mistakes.

“Americano”

We are forgiven and we are warriors! In “Americano,” we stand together and re-create a land of the free. No race, heritage, or gender can define our laws, if your government or religion doesn’t like it, then we don’t speak your Jesús Cristo.

“Hair”

We are finding love and respect for our self and we’ve fought for others to do the same. It’s a miraculous feeling to finally be who you are and rebel for your beliefs, but sadly you will lose some people along the way. In “Hair,” we mourn the loss of anyone who left our side, but realize our own glory comes from inside us. We don’t need the approval of anyone. Accept that and nothing can stop you from growing. You’re as free as the hairstyle you choose.

“Scheiße”

German is a language of power! We may not be fluent yet, but we’re not taking any Scheiße. We can be strong all by ourselves no matter what stands in our way. We’ll do what you want, but not because you want to. See how this works? At this point in the journey, we can be brave without permission.

“Bloody Mary”
Mother Monster channels Mary Magdaline, in “Bloody Mary” only to find her struggling with the concept of being a superstar and woman at the same time. She is fully divine, but fully human. She has a lot of emotions, but some aren’t so sweet. This comes as a moment of weakness for us, as we realize we too are like “Bloody Mary.” No matter how divine we become, we will still be human. Our message from Mary is to be true to our emotion, and not dive too far into our fantasy.

“Black Jesus † Amen Fashion”

As we struggle with the weakness in our human nature, we realize changing our surrounding is as simple as changing our outfits.  We can change our religion, we can change our mind, and we can change our lives. If we can change the image of Jesus, why couldn’t we change anything else in our life? Create a new world and strut down the runway with Black Jesus!

The list continues. What do you guys think?

Still waiting for the BTW Ball Tour DVD. Wasn't it filmed in Sydney? Or is it like a snuff film, an urban legend only?

Nope. I think ARTPOP was designed that way, but not this one. There's no narrative. I think the songs stand on their own. Unlike ARTPOP, trying to find a narrative in it automatically means you end up distorting the most obvious meaning of the songs. Besides, if we accept your theory then many of the songs are about the exact same thing (ex. GH, Americano & Scheisse), so then there's no real journey to begin with.

I think what is definitely filmed is a sort of behind the scenes look of the BTWB, I don't think there was ever a recording of a full concert, but I might be wrong. Gaga's original intention anyway was to make a documentary starting from the BTWB moving along all the way through ARTPOP's creation process and her hip recovery. She said Terry even filmed her surgery.

Of course. That is the way in which it was written. Stunning piece of conceptual art. Helped make me who I am today. Even heavy metal and country bands applaude it's cohesiveness. And as a writer I relished in the fantasy and story-telling aspect of it. The way it is infused with Gaga's own past, from honest lyrics to Clarence on the saxaphone to be reminiscent of her childhood when she danced in the living room with her side ponytail, it is one of the most enduring and iconic contemporary records of all time, which not only transcended all cultures and groups of people, but also came accompanied with a wonderfully appropriate and cohesive performance art, from her grown-up ponytail to the vessel. It has such a Bruce Springsteen-highway-road quality to it. And most of all, its intention was beautiful and pure.

If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.

Not my theory personally. I had never thought of it this way and thought it'd be interesting to share.

What? Just going from his own presentation. What's the difference between these?

GH: 'This is our time to not be what everyone wants us to be, and not do what is ‘expected’ of us!'

Americano: 'we stand together and re-create a land of the free. No race, heritage, or gender can define our laws'

Scheisse: 'We can be strong all by ourselves no matter what stands in our way. ... At this point in the journey, we can be brave without permission.'

These aren't my interpretations. I was just pointing out that in the way the OP describes it, there isn't much of a journey going on at all. Feel free to present counterarguments.

Scheisse: feminist anthem - women should never feel ashamed for having balls to do what feels right, even if it means wearing high heels while dancing in a club till 6am

Americano: political statement about the need for gay marriage; using the metaphor of government hypocrisy when demonising illegal immigrants whilst at the same time letting them work in their gardens on the downlow

GH: battle between the id, ego and superego in each of us. We want opposing things. Sometimes we want to be mother, other times to be father, and sometimes we wish to be an infant (or God)

Again: I'm not talking about what the songs actually mean, I'm solely responding to how the OP described them, which is 100% different from how you're describing them :chica:

Interesting interpretations tho :chica::applause:
