This is why I could NEVER do this as an artist. Unless u were the deceased artists best friend, but other than that ur screwed cuz the fans would never like it no matter what. Madonna will get chewed out just like Gaga did no matter how good they performed it. It's a lose lose situation it pisses me off some fans of artists need to vote who they really want so they can be satisfied

Gurl, bye. It would be a never ending discussion. No fanbase will ever mutually agree on one performer. So that's why an organisation like Billboard takes all factors into consideration and decides on who should do it. 

When Aretha Franklin dies, they are not going to hire Katy Perry to do her tribute. They will go for logical choices like Beyoncé, Adele or Jennifer Hudson. Y'all need some common sense.

Prince and Madonna have wonderful history together, shared success at the same time, worked together and she's still around and relevant and he sadly passed away. No one else would be a better fit. Bruno, Justin Timberlake and Janelle would be accused of being Prince rip-offs anyway so why get them and anyone else wouldn't have a personal history with Prince. The only relevant choices are Madonna, Beyonce and Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder would do a piano medley only so that cancels out a remembrance of his iconic showmanship and Beyoncé's busy with her tour so Madonna is the only relevant choice left. Move on with your life.

It's her who's doing it and no petition in the world is going to change her from taking that stage and honouring her colleague. Which she will do respectfully.
