I love Janelle and I am literally rooting for her career, but that's like when they had Fantasia to honour Whitney Houston at some flop event. The GP doesn't care about Janelle. When an icon dies, you get another icon who had something in common with the deceased one to do a tribute. Janelle is not an icon. Stevie Wonder is an icon. But what is he gonna do besides a piano medely of Prince songs? Prince was all about the shock-value in the prime of his career. So was (and still is) Madonna, so who better? It's easy to see why they asked her and not anyone else. Janelle and Bruno are obviously very, very inspired by Prince and are very talented but Janelle isn't known enough by the GP to headline it and Bruno has been accused of literally lifting Prince's sound. That's like asking Gaga in 2012 to headline a Madonna tribute... 

Madonna is the only one that checks the boxes to headline this tribute. Equally iconic, arguably even more, same age, worked together in the past, equally controversial...

I honestly didn't even think about her but yeah, she's probably a good choice. I'd rather have Gaga do it but maybe it wouldn't be "respectful" since they have had a little history even if they've been cool for over a year now...

Oh please!?! Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson were all born in the same summer of the same year and all three came out of the Mid-West, the Queen, the Prince and the King. Was she supposed to ignore those coincidences? It was a respectful speech, she just pointed out that while both her and Michael Jackson shared a lot, the only thing she had and he didn't was a childhood. Which is why she never had a mental breakdown and Michael did, which ultimately lead to his tragic death...

I am so over this forum sometimes.

A voice is not everything, look at Gaga's tribute, it was a mess that his fans hated (or hate). It's about the feeling and honoring the person that was Prince.
