IKR?  TF/TFM up until Alejandro was a very safe form of being "artistic" and "eccentric."   Alejandro she started getting too "weird" for many of her fans.  Many want "art" as long as it is clearly thought out and well planned, but not the random surreal craziness that occurred BTW era and after, or at SxSW.

Cyndi Lauper has won Tony awards for her broadway music and production, and is generally considered a great person and humanitarian.  I'm ok with that being Gaga's career.

It's interesting to me how similar Cyndi, Christina, and Gaga's careers are, especially when comparing them in contrast to thier peers during thier era's, i.e Madonna, Britney, and Perry. 

It's as if the GP and/or music industry requires this dynamic every musical generation. 

One pop girl who is considered the artsy, musically talented, not classically beauitful, but still with a unique look(Lauper,Aguilera, Gaga) while another pop girl is typically considered more of a sex symbol, an entertainer rather than a musical artist(Madonna, Spears, Perry).
