Around the time of ARTPOP, after Lady Gaga performed at the VMAs, Cyndi did an interview where she talked about how Gaga really opened her eyes back up to performance art in 2009/2010, but lately it seems Gaga has been dumbing it down and listening to other people wanting her to be less artistic. Cyndi said she hopes Gaga stops dumbing her work down and gets back to that performance artistry because she doesn't want Gaga to live in regret for listening to people like she did when people would say "Cyndi, you're so crazy, you need to tone it down."

I don't remember her saying that bit. Either way, it's interesting because from The Fame Monster on, it seems Gaga's aesthetics and videos only got more extreme and polarizing, not less so.
