Well it's not the Jordanian government really.

It was some protesting from religious practitioners that influenced the decision.

Still people doubt there will be formal interference. That's what is disappointing.

Unfortunately there will always be zealotry in religious or secular institutions.

So it's not illegal to be gay but it's considered in that case against the moral of the religion? Who knows maybe this will raise attention on the homophobia that is going on in Jordan.

Considering it's still a major issue even in the West particularly in the USA, I doubt it will be resolved any time soon.

Yes that's true, unless you live in a big city or in very progressive country (like in Denmark they couldn't care less based on my experience) you will struggle and face discrimination as an LGBT person. If homosexuality was not considered criminal in the entire world that would be a huge step already ...

In good news even the most homophobic countries are loosening up their restrictions somewhat. It'll be gradual, but at least it's happening, all thanks to globalization and cultural integration.

Lebanon, where homosexuality is not criminal but can still be used against you, is becoming quite open in discussing the matter publicly. The media is quite sympathetic. 

This one article was recently published by one of the major outlets, LBC. Of course it's in Arabic, but basically it makes the general statement that scientists believe that homosexuality is caused by nature and nurture. It's starting an earnest discussion about it, without using sensationalism.

Look at the picture they used of a couple. 

This is a far cry from depicting them as deviants or anything.

Change is happening, for the better.

In fact, it's pretty interesting to see how far it has come. Transgender individuals are appearing without masking their identities. Gay Lebanese men speak publicly on the news. Hell, they're even appearing on their own shows.

There is this one called Gossip Show on one of the channels. You don't even have to understand them to see that one of the hosts is a flaming nelly bottom. Look at the thumbnail

Oh wow that's quite cool! You know what you say about globalization helping is interesting because some use this as an argument against the gay lifestyle and that it's another perversion coming from the West. I think if scientific articles can help shade some light why not but it can be helping both sides, we still don't know what causes the sexual orientation of a person, there are many theories and some are really detrimental to gays, basically saying that if you are gay you are ****ed up or sick. I don't think either we are born gay but I don't know, I think it's complex and there is also the epigenetic factors we are just starting to consider.  I guess it's also easier to accept in countries were gender roles are more loose. I mentioned Denmark earlier for example and you can observe on many level that equality between gender is quite high even if not perfect but you will find less assumptions about gender roles and stereotypes than in France for example. And in France the debate is still pretty backward honestly...
