People comparing inanimate objects to children. :awkney:

I agree, it's an awkward analogy but it's kind of accurate and just one actually small reason why someone would be pissed.

Women who usually go for insemination spend hours upon hours selecting the man who they wish to be impregnated by. They imagine who their child will be, what traits they will have. Will they have my eyes? Will they have his nose? Will they be as academic as their father? Pregnancy is an intimate and almost spiritual experience, so to find out you've been carrying the child of a different father is devastating and kind of violating. The life you've had growing inside of you is nothing like you imagined and you have no idea who it's other half is? This isn't a race issue.

There's wisdom in this post.

Still like another poster said, I hope this kid never finds out about this suit.

Idk really, look at their reasoning

》Cramblett "is now facing numerous challenges and external pressures associated with an unplanned transracial parent-child relationship for which she was not, and is not, prepared," the suit said. 《

External pressures? Not prepared for "transracial parent-child relationship"?

Did they think how that child might feel about this in future?

Do you not care about what the parents are feeling?

They have their reasons. Don't dismiss them.

I do worry about the kid in the future though.

What a mess...

Well the reasons stated in article are a bit cringeworthy.

Why do you assume that one quote is because she's racist? She's talking about the world around her. You know how hard some black people have it in America and the racism they face. Is this woman aware of her child's heritage and know how to make them proud of it? Does she know what to do if her child is abused because of it's race? Not every time a white person speaks about race equates to them being racist, there are genuine concerns this woman is going to have.

It's not every time they talk about race but if these are the main reasons.... people adopt different race kids all the time, some women have many kids from white/ black/ arab men and they don't care. Is it because she's ashamed of what others might say? Why would "outside pressure" matter and what does it even mean?

That child could still have mother's features even if the father is black btw.

Sperm bank done ****ed up.

So quick to claim racism. You guys need to read a book or something, learn some logical thinking skills.

It's like y'all order a countess doll, and you get it in the mail, and it's an Angela Bassett doll instead. Better not complain because that would be racist.

No, it's like if you requested a generic white doll and got a generic black doll instead. Their only complaint is the race of the baby, whereas in your analogy they would have requested a very specific character, with very specific non-racial traits and received a very different character with very different traits, which would justify being upset about. If you're that upset that the doll you ordered is black, you're probably a racist (not that I agree with the analogy comparing children to products in the first place, but that's another issue). Please don't accuse people in the thread of not having logic skills and proceed to give an analogy so easily refuted >_>

You're missing an important part of the quote -

"Cramblett "is now facing numerous challenges and external pressures associated with an unplanned transracial parent-child relationship for which she was not, and is not, prepared," the suit said."

You can't compare that to the long process that is adoption.

I know? I was referring to the fact she has no idea who the father is? I didn't mention race until my last sentence in that post. -

" Women who usually go for insemination spend hours upon hours selecting the man who they wish to be impregnated by. They imagine who their child will be, what traits they will have. That would be an appropriate analysis except for the fact that they explicitly made it a race issue. All they had to do was say "sperm bank A provided me with sperm that was contrary to the sperm I consented to receive and as such violated my bodily autonomy in deciding what can live and grow in my body." The fact that they brought race into it makes the issue seem less about a violation of her body and more about the value of a black child versus a white one. Black children come with costs therefore you committed a slight against me be impregnating me with one? The sperm bank does deserve to be sued, but their explanation implies that black children are not worth having if you have the option of a white one.

The complaint was actually 'misconduct and negligence' which is a fair point to make.  They inserted the wrong sperm into this woman so she has every right to be upset.

As Benji said it's not a racial issue,  it's a case of negligence.  Racism is thrown around so loosely on this forum that it's insulting to those who actually face racial prejudice.

I am responding to your explanation. You are saying, as they did, black children come with costs A, B, and C to white parents. That is true, however to claim that the very conception of a black child is undesirable as a result of those costs, and as such a moral wrong to impose on unsuspecting white women, seems rather racist. Yes black children come at those costs to white parents, but they also get the benefit of seeing society from a new perspective now that they see how racism affects people of color. I am not assuming they are racist, I'm inferring it from the claims they have made in the context of a legal suit, and I am perfectly open to the idea that they are not racist, but their characterization of the suit makes racism a fair interpretation.

Sorry I should have specified, I was referring to the context of the analogy of the child as a product, as in, something you purchase and receive outside of your body. I agree that in the actual case warrants legal suit.

They're right to sue, but they really aren't painting a pretty picture of themselves in that article.

But I mean why wouldn't you want a mixed race child? We're gorgeous :sis:

Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.
