ARTPOP didn't fail because the music was bad.

Both Applause and DWUW were very mainstream songs, so the entire article is moot. It failed for every reason, except the music.

Literally same. I'd rather her be extraordinary and at the bottom of the charts than basic with 10 number ones :neyde:

Mozart shouldn't use so many notes.  His stuff is overproduced, the GP will never go for it.  If he flops he'll never get a royal engagement again, so he should play it safe.

I mean how many number 1s did Mozart get?!

What a load of crap. All the Little Managers agreeing with it.... :saladga:

It's true that Gaga has made mistakes and not delivered on some of her promises in the past. But I think that she has learned from those mistakes and that's exactly why she's not giving anything away about LG5. I think this time she's ready to just let her music speak for itself without giving it a convoluted concept or meaning or overhyping it.

Also, "embrace the mainstream"? Sorry but no If "embracing the mainstream" means making The Fame 2.0 just to please the GP and some fans, then sorry but I'm not here for that.

Why The Fame is a cave full of gold &  diamonds!

Paparazzi!

Poker Face!

Paper Gangsta!

Summerboy!

Money Honey!

Why Just Dance & Poker Face weren't mainstream "at the time" and they turned out to be some of her best hits if not her biggest!

Oh dear lord you're one of those "Donatella shouldn't exist"  type of people. Not even gonna bother.

I'm sorry, but I believe it is equal to her previous albums. And all of her albums have cringeworthy lyrics. It is not something singled out to ARTPOP. ARTPOP has many great lyrics as well.

And that does not make it unenjoyable. People can enjoy music without everything else.

I'm just now listening to music released in 2004 and 2008. And I have music even older than that, so I think that argument is not only null an void, but completely stupid.

"Just ask your gay friends for advice" "get a spray tan on holiday,in Taipei" her worst lyrics by far

Not a single lie was told in those 7 points. I completely agree, and am very hopeful that she'll come back strong.

I agree with a lot of it, but some of it not.  She was considered unique when the mainstream embraced her.  Mostly the casual mainstream fan has said her music suffered and is more generic now, not as great as the early albums.  That's what you see most post about ARTPOP.  And didn't Gaga say ARTPOP was an album that every song was a hit?  Not some experimental, or unaccessible album.

She can still  write unique or experimental songs, just not at the expense of writing a great song, and only doing it to to be different.  There's a big difference.

But she shouldn't be writing for the mainstream anyway.  She should just be writing as great of an album as she can with no thought to huge success and more thought towards quality.  Tune out the noise of people telling you to write for the mainstream.  The mainstream will come to you if the album is great.

I agree about no filler.  I have long been an advocate for shorter albums instead of 15-song albums with so much filler.  Those albums, unless brilliant, will never have a shot at lists where they list the top 500 albums of all time, because they are just filling up the albums too much.  If it's legacy you're after, pare it down to the best songs, however many that is.

Some valid points but a lot of it is pointlessly condescending and dismissive.

Clearly a pop music stan wrote this.
