Streaming is getting more and more important and is rapidly replacing actual album sales so it's understandable why not only Ariana but other artists make sure their songs can be streamed, or at least the singles.

Justin Bieber released a music video for every song on his album and every video has gathered quite a bunch of views even the non singles. Sia has done the same, Beyonce called it a visual album, etc, it's just the new norm i think.

Actually streaming has never counted as much as sales and was actually reduced recently in the formula to chart singles on the Hot100.

It actually speaks more to the sad state of album sales more than anything else. Just 80k in sales gives you a number one album.  There are albums in the top ten that are selling 8,000 pure album sales. That's pretty pathetic. I do think streams are important don't get me wrong but an Adele, Taylor or Beyonce will easily kick everyone's but with sales and no streaming, because sales are a bigger factor for charting. Kanye was lucky that there was really no competition to block him.

It's a great album. But if a big artist released at the same time with just 100k in sales and no streaming, he or she would have blocked him. I'm not shading the album.
