Hollywood White WASHES Japanese Anime in movie adaptation

I'm kinda torn with this decision. Though I do believe white washing is alive and well in Hollywood, it's my personal belief that a cartoon, anime, comic book or fictional character can be played by anyone as long as the actor is the right choice for the roll. I think white washing would be if the character is specifically written as Asian where the characters culture is pivotal for the role then it would be white washing. For example Disney's Mulan or Jazmin played by a white actress. I don't know much about Ghost In A Shell, but if the culture is pivotal to the story line then yes it's white washing. If it isn't and the character just happens to be drawn as Asian then I don't believe it's white washing. I would be ok with anyone from Lupita Nyongo to Scarlet Johansen and anyone in between to take the role.

If you google asian remakes of Hollywood movies(it's rare but it happens) you'll see that they cast asians to play the roles and that's the most natural thing to do cause it's an adaptation. And btw the Japanese are super cool about these things, they actually like it when people participate in their their culture, wear their traditional clothes ect. So yeah maybe somewhere in the pits of tumblr there are some anime fans that are making some "point" about something but just because it got 5000 notes doesn't validate it.

Honestly I don't care lmao but tbh either way even I she's a real person, it's a real version of a fictional comic or anime whatever it is lol. Either way if they feel it should an Asian it should oh well I'm not seeing this movie either way. Scarlet is hot af though

I don't really care either. lol Imo animes never make good movies even if the Japanese made them themselves. Like  has anyone seen the Death note movies... so cringy...

The original character is a freakin drawing. It's neither asian nor caucasian. It's an anime style. But the problem is not who resembles the character more.

Ghost in the Shell is an entirely japanese story with entirely japanese characters and a story deeply rooted in japanese culture. Most of the story happens in a futuristic version of Tokyo, and all the interactions are with Japanese characters.

This is an entirely Japanese story that appeals to the japanese mentality and characters have a japanese personality becauae they have been brought up in japanese culture.

You cannot cast Scarlett Johansen just because the main character's drawing style 'sort of' 'kinda' looks caucasian if you squint your eyes. That's making a mockery of the whole story (which is much more interesting that anything hollywood could come up with anyway).
