Lmao you don't know what I feel or what goes on in my head šŸ’€Ā You don't realize where the racism is due to conditioning.Ā

You just said you weren't interested in having conversations with people who disagree with you on this subject, so your motivations for posting in here are just to insult and dismiss people who disagree with you. I think that speaks pretty clearly about what goes on in your head.

As for me not knowing where racism comes from, I'm not sure why you think you have a better understanding of racism than me, but I suppose that further proves me point that you are less interested in hearing other people's perspectives then you are in shutting down conversations.

I understand that as an over weight gay man it feels good for you to validate your victim hood by pretending that anyone who disagrees with your world view is bigoted, but that is intellectually lazy and dishonest.

wow now I see why you have that nicknameĀ :koons:

OT: even though I'mĀ asian myself, I don't feel bad about this at all. probably because I like Scarlett Johansson a lot :air:Ā

but yeah, there is a trend of whitewashing in Hollywood. it would be great if actors of all races were represented more often in american movies, but for that change to happen the whole society has to change first. we're just not quiteĀ there yet.Ā

Just to be clear, I wasn't insulting him. I mentioned his weight and sexuality to make a point about his status as part of two minorities which face discrimination.

Him calling me and other users racist is insulting, me calling him overweight is not insulting. Being over weight is not an insult.

So in issues like this race does matter but when it comes to cultural appropriation in terms of black artists and rap music "race isn't everything"

you and I clearly have different ideas on what is insulting and what is not. let's leave it at thatĀ :emma:

wearing dreads nor an evil whitey making rap musicĀ isn't cultural appropriation. :rip:Ā let's not turn this into a race contest,Ā especiallyĀ considering ya'll only like to talk about the oppression black people face yet say nothing about all the other non white folks out there.

anyways, i don't know why they didn't cast an asian actor as the lead for this. I'd like to make it clear that just because an anime is from japan, doesn't mean the characters in it are always japanese. Take Baccano for example: made in japan yet it takes place in America and all the characters are of Italian descent. Thought i'd clear that up since some of you are ignorant and beleive that every anime that is is made consists ofĀ justĀ japanese people. :rip:Ā

i never watched Ghost in the Shell but i did look up the character Scarlett is playing and foundĀ out that her name isĀ Motoko Kusanagi and she's explicitly japanese. so, bad on hollywood's part for choosing to **** up this bad since her nationality nor name aren't ambiguous. :flop:Ā that girl in Sense8, Bae Doona, would've been great. She's not japanese but she totally could have pulled off this character.Ā

Anime or not, but that character does not look Asian. From that perspective. I have nothing else to add anymore. I do get it, why people would be mad over this. It would have been better for an Asian cast.Ā

Funnily enough,Ā anime has this weird perspective problem. I always wondered why most anime characters had a "white" look to them, but to Asians, the characters come across as completely Asian.

Oh. You again.

So were YOU the casting manager? did you see all the other actresses that wanted to get a part in the movie? how do you know ScarJo is the most qualified? elaborate. And, yes, race is a huge topic of discussion. Usually conservatives like yourself wont understand **** because yall are full of ignorance.

Isn't it funny how whenever there's a role for a non-white character, white actors/actresses somehow just happen to ALWAYS be the most talented??? Such a strange occurrence.Ā

I mean, it is bad, but I like Scarlett, so I am curious.

Also, from last year's Attack of Titans Movies, I can also say than Asian adaptation to their own comics or books can be fuxked up too, they have their part.

I am dissapointed big time with that as SNK is one of my favourite new manga series.

Just goes to show it pretty muchĀ depends on where and who isĀ adapting it. Don't think that's going to get through to some peopleĀ because it's a bit of an internetĀ SJW circle-jerk in here butĀ who knows.

Just know I'm #Triggered because of the lack of white people in your story. I want representation in foreign media!

Ew, kinda thought you were better than thisĀ :/

I thought I was the only one saying it. Thank god, I'm not. :rip:Ā Ā

It's probably because the anime self is from Asia, therefore the character needs to be asian. That's what they are trying to point out I guess.. But damn, that character does NOT, again. NOT look like an asian girl.Ā

Anyways, I'm not here to say what's right. I never seen the series, perhaps they need an Asian actress.Ā

tumblr_n8szqvFil91qbjx58o1_500.gif

If they doesn't look Asian they doesn't lookĀ caucasian either, that's for sure.Ā

TheĀ big eye and colorful outfits and hair is not only a pop culture thing for them it's literally part of their culture.Ā

And anĀ Asian actor with aĀ gyaru look would've pulled the character much better.Ā

I hate to be the ignorant racist that will disagree with the verdict by the tumblr supreme court but... This is not a story about an ancient african princess portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. It’s Japanese animated movie and the Hollywood studio bought the rights to remake it so it's kind of sort of theirs to interpret Ā it for the american public(set it in New York or whatever, give the characters American names ect.) And there's nothing wrong with that. Stop using ''fighting'' racism as a form of online entertainment for yourselves...

Lady Palutena

On topic so I don't get WPs :emma:

For me, if the character is specifically stated as being Japanese then by logic I feel that it makes sense to expect a Japanese or even a Japanese-American actress. I mean, I get that anime leaves a lot of ambiguity to character race in illustration but if the narration or creator of said series says they are Japanese, then that's the final say.

I'd personally feel very confused about seeingĀ a film set in Japan with a Japanese protagonist portrayed by a White person.

But then I alsoĀ think thisĀ comes down to where the film is being marketed and the company producing the film. Face it, movies are about profit; very rarely is a movie made simply for entertainment. They need those big-name, a-list actors/actresses to bring inĀ numbers.

@Sizzliy

I agree that there is a right place and time and a wrong place and time for characters. However,Ā I feel that the gifs the user was using did come off as rude and unnecessary. But maybe that's the kind of person they want to be seen as;Ā it's their choice. Personally, I wouldn't associate with someone like that.

However, the difference here is that the Expressions I use are my equivalent to the forum emotes. For me, sometimes there is not an emote to convey my reaction or feelings on a certain subject so I use one of my wide array of Expressions for it as I have an ExpressionĀ for nearly every reply possible. But IĀ never use them excessively, after all, I was told that too many Expressions could be misconstrued as pointless posts so I've limited myself to 2-3 a post and I don't post often so I think I'm okay.

Well...I know a lot of latinas that have mediterranean features like Gaga so that could work. There's actually some latinas that look more like Gaga than a typical white girl like Jennifer lawrence.Ā

Sorry I'm late af.. Flop GGD member but I see where you're coming from. But still of Gaga is Italian(white) I would expect a white actress to depict her on screen. I know Latinos that look like MLK but in a movie he needs to be black lol you know?Ā

Yeah I totally get you but if Gaga ever has a biopic she needs an italian girl like her sister to play just like how MLK needs a black man to play him but still look like him. It would be weird if they casted a regular white girl with blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin because that's not how Gaga looks like.Ā
