More like overrated....she has the most lethargic and depressing vocals I've ever heard and people thirst for her music like it'll sound any different from the last album

Not saying I hate her, but she's definitely overrated. I actually love her. I know a lot of her unreleased, I saw her in concert, I have CDs and records.. But trust me when I say that she is extremely overrated

No. She's just not as mainstream as other artists. Her fans consider her the second coming of lyrical Jesus so I don't think she is is underrated at all. Born To Die is her most Grammy worthy album but I don't think she could beat other artists.

When it comes to Live performances, i agree that she's being nervous especially when she's performing on festivals (bigger places), but for example we have videos of her performing in smaller places, where she kills it. You should check this out -

Way better video

As I've said before, i think nerves are a big part of it. She's proved she's more than capable many times before. I think being comfortable is a big factor. If she's at a festival or some sort of situation where she doesn't know if everyone in the room likes her, she seizes up and nerves consume her. But if she's at a concert where everyone's a fan, she's in her element.

It's a shame she's never won a Grammy. She makes the sort of music that the academy normally loves, I don't understand it. But the academy have been making some unusual snubs these days. Ariana Grande's only been nominated for 2 and has never won despite having a voice that we haven't heard since the days of Mariah Carey and having a lot of mainstream hits. She has all the elements, so why can't she win? So, if Lana doesn't have the commercial appeal, she's got even less chance.

I'd say she's underrated as an artist, as a songwriter. Not as a vocalist. Lana is my favorite artist ever behind Gaga, but i have to admit that her live performances are not her...strong point.

Maybe she sings beautifully when she's alone or in the studio, but, for example, she can't match Terrence Loves You's bridge, neither Off To The Races (and many, many more). She seems always so nervous or uncomfortable...it's a shame, because her music is pure poetry. I mean, i've never been amazed by her live performances as i am with Gaga's. I like to think that she really sounds like that when she's at the studio.

Have you ever seen her live? I'm expecting not because if you had, you'd probably think very differently. I saw her live back when she was still considered a bad singer (I bought that ticket with a lot of trepidation) but was blown away. Even the critics praised her. If the videos that had previously been provided for you don't convince you, try this:

Pay attention specifically to 0:32, 2:43, 3:27, 5:37 and 6:04.

Lethargic and depressing doesn't have to mean bad, though. It just doesn't appeal to you, that's all. I find depressing vocals to be very haunting and beautiful. And her music has changed between albums. Not massively, but she has had a distinctly different sound per album. Born To Die was a throwback to many retro sounds from the 40's and thereabouts that is difficult to pin down exactly what genre it is, Ultraviolence had classic rock influences and sounded very different (this is why it divided her fans and her sales dwindled) and Honeymoon has trap, jazz, Latin and middle eastern influence.

Not to sound redundant or anything, but it definitely depends who you were to ask. The thing with Lana is, she's known more wholesomely as artist, and constantly delivers a certain quality to her work.

She's just a particular taste. So it's really hard to categorize her and her vocals, because they're more dependent on how the viewer takes her.

I personally think she's got a sweet voice, and knows how to express her emotions through her notes and melodies. The musicality is definitely there. Could her vocals sound more fuller and stronger like her other "pop" contemporaries? Why not?

I just feel like it wouldn't be so "Lana" for her to try so hard. It's part of her effortless charm.

I feel like she's the only one who truly knows of her full capabilities, as of now anyway.

Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.

No. Her vocals are not exactly top tier. I say this as a fan.

I think she is decent vocally, but I think her nerves get the best of her and she doesn't always give performances to the best of her abilities. Maybe time will change that. Until then, I'm happy with the music and love her aesthetic.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
