Who else thought that BTW was the ARTPOP of Gaga's career during 2011?

I think if Gaga let go of some of the control of the albums, they would soar. But I understand why she wants to be in control of as many aspects as possible, which I love as a fan.

I'm always torn about chart success and single performances. I sometimes care and sometimes don't. I've been trying to just enjoy the albums for what they are!

I just hope LG5 will solidify her chart performance and she will get to explore many aspects with the next era!

BTW did really well in my opinion but her backlash started after Judas and I think it got to her head.

In a way Born This Way was Gaga's "In The Zone" era. Britney was still popular and talked about everyday during the in the zone era but people also started to get tired of her. She had successful hits but the public were turning on Britney. Britney has always been somewhat controversial like dressing raunchy at 17 to Britney (2002) era but it got amplified when she kissed Madonna at the 2003 Vmas which had mixed reactions. Britney was seen as a bad role model for young girls. Eventually In The Zone was the end of her prime and things went left from 2nd half of 2004 to 2007. With Gaga things went left during the born this way era. They both had meltdowns after the ending of their prime. Thankfully they got both got up on their two feet.

Great insight! :hor:

I think btw was a great album. But it was not for everyone. A lot of lady gaga fans from 2008-2010 were fans of the fame and fame monster era but most of those people start to hate her becuase of how dark born this way , they didn't understand the whole concept. First I was like wtf is she wearing ( horns) and I dislike her when judas came out. But then I start to listen to her More and I love her. My favorite song is hair and you and I. She was really weird during this era and people didn't know how to react and start to call her duty names and I believe she lost a lot of first fans and the real fans stood by her side.

Yes, but fans were pissed that the best songs (shibe, government hooker, heavy metal lover, etc) weren't getting recognition as singles

Shibile, government hooker and heave metal lover were good songs but I don't think was single potential. Those song don't sound nothing like music they play in the radio. Most people will not buy the singles only little monster. I love HML and shibile

Well, no. I was someone who couldn't understand why everyone was freaking out over nothing. I believed she was doing better than people thought back then and I still think so now. BTW was massive, that we can't deny. Judas underperformed, but its Vevo views and likes (it's her fourth most liked video of all time) show that it had more impact than we think. TEOG is one of Gaga's biggest, most known hits and the public love it - don't let the chart positions and Vevo views fool you). Y&I didn't do well outside the US, but America responded well to it and it sold over 3 million there and it's a massive crowd favourite at her live shows. MTN is the only flop but its music video has almost 70 million views now which is awesome considering it's about 14 minutes, was the fifth single off her album, was barely promoted and was a flop. The album sold over 6 million, great back then, even better by today's standards. The tour pulled in $184 million with sell outs at stadiums and had she not broken her hip, those remaining shows would have sent her into the $200 million mark. I mean, the Prismatic tour made $204 million and people talk like it was a massive success, so why not the BTWB? It wasn't a flop, it was a hit.

Looks like I was right in hindsight. But even I didn't think AP would be the mess it was. I naively thought she could still play stadiums.

Everybody. Born This Way killed Gaga's career literally and since then, she lost the general public forever.

If I were Gaga,  I would regret releasing Born This Way.
