Gene Simmons speaks about Gaga

I remember in that podcast with Bret Easton Ellis and Peaches they said they were surprised she didn't go in a more rock direction after BTW as it would have been a natural progression.

If she went in a more Brandon Flowers/The Killers direction I think I'd be here for it, or maybe like the sexy electronic beats and guitar riffs of Garbage, or the strong vocals and melodies of Gossip. The problem is think people would find it harder to accept a regular pop album from her after that.

Yeah, I do like pop Gaga but most of that love comes from back in the day when we thought that was all she was capable of. But over time, she's proven that she can do any genre and pull it off, such multi talented abilities. It would be a shame to see all of that kept in the dark just because the world would prefer pop music from her. Thing is, a lot of the public do like her other genre tracks like You And I and her jazz stuff. From the public who did hear ARTPOP, a lot of them loved MANiCURE, which was heavily rock influenced. Why shouldn't she indulge in areas where she's had praise before and clearly loves. Honestly, her fans shouldn't try and fight the idea of her doing rock music. It's going to happen one day, whether you like it or not. You'll just have to accept this is what her passion is and let her do it. There's plenty of other pop artists who you can get your pop fix from while still stanning for Gaga's no doubt brilliant adventures in other genres.

The hate of disco is rooted in homophobia, instead of burning *******s people burned disco records to assert their masculinity.

So, while Gene can eat my glittery **** for his disco comment, the rest I agree with. I'd love to hear a rock record from Gaga.

While I realise that you're probably doing some joking here, I'd like to assert that a lot of people don't like disco music because they find it cheesy and boring. No way could I have endured the mainstream disco scene if I had lived through the 70's. My family from that time can confirm a lot of it was rubbish and the beats all started to sound the same, which is maybe why it died out. Disco was a fad for a reason. It ruled for one decade and then everyone disowned it. Its recent mild resurgence (with the exception of Uptown Funk, which is more funk than disco anyway) honestly baffles me. Why listen to such passionless, middle of the road, easy listening sounds?

I wasn't kidding about the hatred for disco being rooted in homophobia. This article briefly summarizes the racist and homophobic tone of the Disco Sucks movement.

Disco, like any other style of music, is capable of being cheesy and and boring, that doesn't mean you write off the entire genre. It's prominently celebratory music, but that doesn't mean it's passionless, see blow.

I really don't think that article explained either of those things - it was all pure speculation. The one thing I never liked about rock fans was that they can be just as uneducated about other genres as pop fans can be, yet they claim to be superior. I love their genre but their fans can be annoying to deal with at times. But honestly, it's such a stereotype to say that they're all racists and homophobes just because most of them are white straight men. You'd be surprised how much more acceptance there is in this genre now.

And sorry, there's just very few disco music I can connect to. If it all sounded like Play That Funky Music, I'd say it was pretty groovy and danceable. But as it is, I just can't move to it.

He has such an elitist attitude toward pop music like most rock fans his age. :grr: However, he constantly praises her and I agree the wold deserves a rock album from Gaga while she's in her prime.

No one is saying that all fans of Rock music are racist and homophobic. It's specifically the Rock fans and crowds at Disco Demolitions who's dislike of disco was rooted in homophobia and racism. The records they burned were an effigy to effeminacy. The trend of hating disco was a subliminal message to queers and blacks.

I personally can't connect to Rap, but that doesn't mean I disregard the entire genre, the same should go for you in regards to disco.

That sounds more like a backhanded compliment than anything. Let Gaga make the kind of music she wants. I understand that pop is probably not his thing, but who said Gaga has to please him anyway? At least he recognizes her talent and that's all that matters.

I love Gene Simmons with every piece of my heart. :flutter: He has always supported Gaga and been a fan, so I'm not surprised at him speaking up again after the last couple months.

Also I think I'm one of the few who loved when KISS ventured off into "disco" territory for a little bit.
