Born Brave 2,072
When I went to the Trump rally here in Millington TN a few weeks ago I met an Islamic couple. They were probably the nicest people there. They were looking at political books that a vendor was selling before the event, and they were very obvious Islamic- I hate to stereotype but sometimes it's just unavoidable, I wanted to say hello, so I greeted them and asked them how they were doing and we made small talk about the traffic being crazy. I got very candid with them and asked. "Why are you supporting Trump when all the media has done is made him out to be a bigot who wants to ban muslims from entering the country?" They kind of laughed and the gentleman put his hand on my shoulder (which kind of creeped me out at first but suddenly I felt extremely at peace) and said "We are voting for Donald Trump because we know he can keep us safe from the people we should all be afraid of- those people, ISIS, they are not True islam" I agreed with them and told them I knew and reminded them that Christians also had the "crazies" like Westboro Baptist Church. I told them that I too was a minority at the rally because I am gay and most of my gay friends think I'm a complete moron for supporting the Trump movement. And the lady spoke up finally and said, "we should vote with our hearts, and not what the mean people on the TV say- the people on the TV have ruined our religion and what it actually stands for and now they are doing the same for Trump". I pivoted and said "What about Hillary Clinton, do you think she would keep Islamic US citizens safe?" The gentleman spoke again and said "NO! She can't even keep Americans safe- she let those people die in Benghazi." (I agreed with him profusely) and the only anger I saw the entire night was between us 3 when we were talking about what happened with all of that. It was a very nice experience. It's very sad that the only thing you see in media is the negative things revolving around his campaign and the way Trump's words have been twisted. I will also add there were several african americans there and several latinos as well- and they were treated with the utmost respect. I think it's specifically because the people there embraced their attendance because it justifies the notion that Trump supporters are not all "Old straight angry uneducated white guys". Gaga fans should know first hand how the media can ruin and spin things to destroy someone- They almost destroyed Gaga in 2012-2013, like their rhetoric and negativity (unfairly) almost ruined her- literally. They choose who is loved and hated. They are all invested now. If they don't ruin Trump they have lost all of their credibility because every battle they lose they lose their influence. Trump would be their biggest loss because I have never seen them go after someone as profusely as Donald Trump.
Whispering 18,865
@Justinn Do you live near Memphis? I'm sure it was a nice experience for Trump supporters. I'm glad the Latinos there didn't run into these supporters at the rally: Protesters gathered outside of the event, and one made his way inside and held up a sign. Matt Fylack, 37, formerly a union plumber in Florida, said he snatched away the sign and tore it up. "We were losing jobs to Mexicans. Illegals," he said, adding that the children of immigrants should be deported with their parents. Another Trump supporter, Eddie L. Miller, 68, suggested the U.S. should not only deport immigrants, but consider invading Mexico. "If we're going to invade somebody, we need to invade Mexico's ass and kick these illegals the hell out of here," he said. "Get them the hell out of our country!" After the speech is over, people begin filing out. At the exit, about a dozen Black Lives Matter protesters are standing with signs, chanting “history repeats itself.” The crowd of Trump supporters begin yelling slurs and barbs. A man screams “all lives matter.” Another yells “go home.” Did you catch this part: "Terry Roland, the Millington Mayor who has been in hot water for his racist remarks, introduced South Carolina preacher and Trump supporter Mark Burns to give an opening prayer. Burns uses the prayer to call people who abort fetuses “murderers,” and claims Trump is going to put a stop to it and bring about a new moral America where marriage is between one man and one woman." The report on the crowd: "The crowd, which Trump people claimed to be 15,000 but news reports pegged at about around 10,000, was 99 percent white. It’s a combination of mostly the elderly and middle-aged. I think I saw maybe four or five African Americans total inside the hangar, with those four or five being older and male." Oh, and how about this: As I walked past a vendor screaming as loud as he could to buy his “BOMB THE **** OUT OF ISIS BUTTONS!,” there were 7-year-old Girl Scouts selling cookies 15 feet away. The extreme ignorance and stupidity of Trump supporters baffles me. The majority of Trump supporters are racists and bigots, Or at least he brings out the hate out of them at the rallies.
