Gaga girl.  You're white.  Whether she likes it or not being white has given her an advantage in life and she needs to recognize that.

OMG :toofunny:

No one can just be themselves anymore without there being some sort of issue.

I'm hoping she meant this lightly. Like she inferred that the person meant they would like her if she was black and she's basically saying her race shouldn't be a deciding factor. Although I don't think that's what the original tweet meant.

This is Gaga we're talking about. She's very aware of social and political issues. It was just a small tweet and I highly doubt she meant to renounce her whiteness and/or ignore her privilege. She's spoken about her heritage many times so I don't think she really sees herself as a "colorless" being lol, it was probably just supposed to be a cute little tweet. Only it probably would've been better for her to just leave it.

I completely acknowledge and accept that people of color are disadvantaged but Gaga is ethnic Italian (she isn't naturally blonde) and she has said many times that she was setback for "being too ethnic." The phrase "people of color" encompasses far more people than just black people. (Not to rule anyone out or anything) In fact, that describes anyone from non-caucasian heritage.

Yupp I agree except Gaga is caucasian so I don't see why you're raising this point.

I think that she meant to tweet this as a joke. There's been many times that she's called herself a white girl, including a time that she made a tweet joking around about being the white girl who raps in a song with T.I., Too $hort, and Twista

This is kind of naive of her. It's easy for people of the privileged race/gender/sexuality to be like "I don't define myself" when they haven't been discriminated against. It simplifies the issues and it trivializes the struggles of people who have been treated negatively for being a certain race or sexuality.

I'm not saying she can't be white or that there's anything wrong with being white.  But calling your self colorless is the epitome of white privilege.

See this post below for a far better explanation

I don't think he meant it like that, though (like, "if she was black, I'd like her, but since she's not...")...we're getting so harsh on each other, let's lighten up :unicorn:

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Guys, she's European, and y'know, Italian. :air:

+ Am I the only one who can't put a color/race to Lady Gaga? She seems ethinicless, but she says she's Italian. She doesn't strike me as human, she's an alien.

nnn shes white. she cant say she is colorless. its a manifestation of subconscious white privilege, because when you're white you dont have to think about racial issues if yoou wanna be ignorant. white does not equal "standard" or "colorless"

Queen. I know the history of POC, but today's society, being LGBT is way more polarizing than being black, just look at South Korea rn. Lady Gaga is the worlds most famous gay rights activist, and she is basically shunned out of the conversation if the public community. I have never heard people talk about Gaga like I have Beyonce and Taylor and it irks be to death. When she comes up, you can feel the awkwardness, if you're a Gaga, fan, "whoops you must be gay!" It's ridiculous. Yes, Gaga still has **** going against her too.

Eh. Italian is not a race tho. It's not an ethnicity either. It's a nationality. There different ethnic peoples in Italy tho, but the majority of people in Italy are white. There is a lot of intermixing with North African. Latin American, and Asian people tho, and I'm sure Gaga has some of that, but ultimately she is white and does not experience any of the oppression that POC do.
