Trump says he may pay legal fees of supporter who sucker-punched protester

Donald Trump says he is looking into paying the legal fees of a man who was arrested after throwing a sucker punch at a protester during the Republican frontrunner’s rally in North Carolina last week.

“The man got carried away,” Trump said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday. “He obviously loves his country, and maybe he doesn’t like seeing what’s happening to the country.”

 

At Wednesday’s rally in Fayetteville, N.C., John McGraw, 78, was caught on video punching the protester, 26-year-old Rakeem Jones, as Jones was being led out of the event by security.

After the rally, “Inside Edition” interviewed McGraw, who freely admitted assaulting Jones.

“He deserved it,” McGraw said. “The next time we see him, we might have to kill him.”

Police arrested McGraw the next day and charged him with assault and disorderly conduct.

“No one should be subjected to such a cowardly, unprovoked act as that committed by McGraw,” Cumberland County Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “Regardless of political affiliation, speech, race, national origin, color, gender, bad reputation, prior acts or political demonstration, no other citizen has the right to assault another person or to act in such a way as this defendant did.”

I actually read a post on Neale Donald Walsh's Facebook yesterday (he's the author of the Conversations with God book series) which perfectly sums up how I feel about Trump. 

We have a candidate for president of the United States who says of a protestor at one of his campaign events, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”
We have a candidate for president who says of protestors at his events, “I love the old days — you know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? They’d be carried out on a stretcher, folks.”
We have a candidate for president of the United States who told one of his audiences, “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. OK? Just knock the hell — I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”
Is there any hope? Are we really nothing more than a species of sentient beings run amok, blowing up H-bombs under the ground to prove our invincibility, ending criminals’ lives by injection to demonstrate our righteousness, allowing hundreds of children to die of starvation every hour as we defend a global economy that benefits one-tenth of the planet’s population?
Have we so lost our collective mind as to think that the way to stop gun violence is for everybody in the world to carry a gun?
Have we so lost our collective will as to find no way to stop the wars that create refugee crises rendering millions homeless?
Have we so lost our collective morals as to find it actually preferable for divisiveness, rudeness, insults and tasteless verbal bullying to become the hallmark of political leadership?
Is this what we have come to? Gun-toting, fist-pumping, verbal-bashing, jaw-jutting, loud-mouthed intimidators and strong-armed tyrants daring anyone to stand up for what is gentle, peaceful, and—God forbid—loving?

Last month, Trump pledged to pay the legal bills for supporters who "knocked the crap" out of anyone who was considering throwing tomatoes at the former reality-television star.

"If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them," Trump said. "Just knock the hell — I promise you, I'll pay the legal fees."

Publicly, Trump has said before that he would be willing to pay the legal fees of a supporter that is charged with hurting a protester at one of his events and he did not back down from that promise today.

"I've actually instructed my people to look into it," Trump said.
