I feel like she definitely said she wanted to use her celebrity platform to raise awareness and help trans youth...

I don't think she's necessarily 'hurt' the movement but she hasn't really done a world of good, either. However her very public coming out did get the conversation going amongst a lot of people who I suppose haven't really given it much thought before, so I suppose that's a good thing. But I'm not a fan of hers at all.

She said she is a trans ambassador for Ted Cruz tho. :air:

She did help the community but not in the Liberal way of doing it and I think thats why people dont like her.. the LGBT community dont like her because of their expectation of what they want her to be.

I'm curious. In what way did she help the LGBT community?

I said in my first comment that she did not help or hurt the community but in my second comment I meant that just her coming out and living her life publicly obviously helped the community alot.

I don't really see how this makes any sense, but okay.

I like that the most famous trans woman in America is a Conservative. I like that Caitlyn Jenner is challenging preconceived notions about what it means to be queer. I like that she is imperfect. I like that she upsets people who are martyrs to their identity. I like that she sends tumblr users into epileptic fits.

Log Cabin Republicans and Conservative queer people only enrich our community.

It's funny how often intolerant people preach about the importance of tolerance.

Yeah, after the first couple of months, it became clear that Caitlyn didn't have much to say other than what we stereotype a transperson to say. Dressing way too young for a 66 year old and making comments like "The hardest thing about being a woman is deciding what to wear" did her no favours. It's clear that living with rich, pampered girlie women for over 20 years has altered her view of the world and her place in it. She seems to see women as being all about fashion and femininity and living for their men. It didn't take people long to say: "She's just as shallow and self-obsessed as the rest of the Kardashians." I was reading recently that she's hoping her marry her new female lover and get an exclusive wedding shoot out of it and be on the cover of Vogue, like Kim. That was the killer phrase - like Kim. If you've been surrounded by the Kardashians for so long, it's no surprise that you strive to be like them. So, it's safe to say that Caitlyn's view on women are somewhat...limited, given the circumstances.

Her endorsement of conservatives is a toughie. While, yes, a lot of these conservatives don't supports the trans community, you have to remember that Caitlyn comes from an older generation, and the further back in time you go, the more conservative people were. She's naturally finding it difficult to adapt and she lived as a Republican male for so long that switching off those beliefs is hard. If she'd transitioned in her 20's, she might not have had the chance to retain so much conservatism. While the idea of a conservative transperson seems like an oxymoron, why should it? Not every belief has to bring your sexual orientation into the equation. You don't see heterosexuals justifiying their beliefs on their straightness, or even taking that into account. There's no steadfast rule that says you have to be liberal if you're trans. Certainly the idea of a trans conservative opens up the trans conversation among conservatives where it didn't before. And it could maybe make them think: "Oh, so they're not all liberal loons, they could be very similar to us." Makes it come from not the most positive of places, but it's a start. I mean, even as I, as a liberal, can say that some conservatives are right on some counts. I dislike how your political orientation means you have to support everything your side does and detest everything the other side does. So, Caitlyn bridges that gap somewhat. But outright endorsing Republican candidates...yeah, that's going to get people's backs up.

She is a she.

I can see why people would dislike her, but disrespecting her identity is honestly not a valid argument. Two wrongs don't make a right. ❤

I mean she didn't choose to be an icon, people were expecting too much from someone who in fact has nothing relevant to say. I wouldn't like to be her, she's probably the most famous transperson and she definately can't handle that or doesn't really care. Media massively report everything she says and people associate it with the trans movement, that's the problem.

By misgendering Caitlyn, you're setting the example that it's acceptable to misgender other trans people. It's not. There's nothing wrong with her identity, just her ideals, thoughts and personality. Her views on womanhood are also...questionable, to say the least. And she may very well have killed someone. But we shouldn't refer to her with male pronouns because we don't like her.

I personally don't understand how she can be a trans-ambassador for Ted Cruz, that's kind of an oxymoron.

LGBT rights as a collective (especially Trans) have never really been on the Republican agenda. If Cruz really we're to be president, I highly doubt that he would be interested in any trans issues so Caitlyn sis, don't waste your time. Cruz doesn't support trans rights the same way she doesn't support gay marriage.

Naturally, instead of having an intelligent conversation about how Caitlyn is misinformed with regards to LGBT rights, many, including Cruz and Trump supporters responding to her endorsements, decide to resort to misgendering her and using petty insults. Her words deserve to be questioned, but her identity does not.

PopBitch

She just went from a privileged wealthy, white, senior citizen male to a privileged, wealthy, white, senior citizen female.  At 67, what you see (and hear) is what you get.  Don't expect miracles.
