When I went to London and France I was surprised how welcoming they were to me and dozens of other Americans. The french actually informed us how annoying "French Canadian" is to them. Oh well that's funny what you say about French Canadian being annoying, do they mean the people or the language? Their French is quite different from French from France (I am French and live in Montreal) and I think some French think they sound a bit ridiculous which is a stupid prejudice, personally I like the accent and they are super welcoming and nice. overall i found Canadian polite and warm. I can't compare to Americans because I have not met many and not been in the US. But from a European perspective I guess it's quite possible they think Canadians and Americans are the same, even though i disagree... but for sure the two cultures have things in common.
