Just ask Ms. Banks. Kanye was much bigger in the 00's. I can't even remember the last time i heard his voice on the radio. I'm not trying to take away from his artistry, its just that he's not that big of a mainstream artist anymore You didn't specify you were talking about commercial success, though. You just said "as an artist", so I assumed that meant you were talking about him... as an artist. But yes, of course he was bigger in the 00s. It's very clear that he hasn't been trying to be a commercial force like that for years. I feel like the last time he tried to have a crossover hit was with Watch The Throne and that was five years ago... He explicitly said in 2013 that he didn't want to be on radio anymore which is why he doesn't push singles. He hasn't even released this album for sale for goodness sake, he clearly doesn't care about charts or mainstream. Doesn't mean he isn't an artist anymore. (Btw the last time you probably heard his voice on radio was on Rihanna's 45S last year.)

eifulien 2,955
Most important decision made in the music industry, I guess. Now all will boycott CDs. RIP the CD it was a nice time with you <3 Seriosuly, who cares about the opinion of a mentally imbalanced person? If he wasn't Kanye, he'd be in an asylum with heavy medication. Kanye West is an artist of the 00's in my opinion He's just been a guy in pop culture in the '10's He released the most acclaimed album of this decade and he's still the most played rapper not named Drake. His celebrity presence is bigger than his music of course but that would be true for virtually any artist if they got as much media coverage as him. I agree that he'll probably change his mind or Def Jam will do it for him. He has an insane amount of freedom but I doubt they'd let him not sell any of his albums from now on considering they'd stand to gain nothing. StrawberryBlond 14,828
How the hell is streaming alone going to pay the bills? I don't get it. How is making your music exclusive to the 0.01% of the world's population who subscribe to Tidal supposed to make money or get the world listening to your art? Stop trying to make Tidal happen. It's funny how artists think if they make their music limited to a select few paying customers will improve business. They are that arrogant to think the public will comply. No, they don't - people will pirate it from now on, even the fans. They did it with TLOP, they'll do it in the future. Not everyone has $9.99+ to spend on music streaming per month. This scheme favours rich fans over poor fans. Kanye fails to realise that seeing a CD in a shop is a big visual reminder to the public that an album exists. That's why physical copies still have a place in the world. Even if they don't want a physical, they'll see it, be interested, then go home and purchase digital. But if something is purely online, it can't be advertised as well. And sales of Adele's albums show that people still want to be buy CD's and certainly, a lot of fans nowadays like buying both formats and even vinyl, if they have enough cash to spend. You want to sell music? Make it available on all formats, so people who have different tastes in how they listen to music can all enjoy it. Limiting music to a select few is an epic fail. Music should be available to everyone. And most importantly, music should be available to own. Streaming only enables you to LISTEN to the music, not OWN it. That's why I don't see why anyone would want to pay to stream considering there's so many ways to listen to music for free legally (duh, YouTube, some artists upload the official audio for their entire albums on there) and that you're paying merely to listen, not to own. Buying a single or an album is a one time payment and then you can listen to it as many times as you want, whenever you want, and you'll never have to pay again. Kanye is wanting people to pay for one album for the rest of their lives by paying for a service that lets them merely listen to it. That's ludicrous. Look at the album sales for those artists, the only one's who even go gold let alone platinum are Drake and Jay Z.
