Bernie Sanders: If You're White, You Don't Know What It's Like To Be Poor

The wording is key here I guess (he's not coming from a bad place, and i'm a hillary supporter). But no, poverty is not exclusive to POC. White privilege in the US because of institutional racism is important to acknowledge, but when talking about social inequalities white privilege is not the fact that all white people are better off than black people : white privilege is the fact that white people have more opportunities and are more equipped to be better off than POC.

The man grew up poor, and his parents died young. He contrasted his experience growing up poor with people of color. No mention in the OP about how black people in general have a more difficult time in society than whites? Sanders mentioned it. The fact that you don't bother to mention that is biased. Exactly; Bernie Sanders is not my preferred candidate in this race, but his answer to this question was quite good. The "You don't know what it's like to be poor" part is just a PART of the answer, not the answer in its entirety. His own life story speaks to that.

But do you agree with his claim that whites don't know what it's like to be poor or to live in ghettos? That was part of his answer, as you said, but I didn't see you address it.

i don't agree with his statement that no white people understands what it is like to be poor, everyone has different experiences, but I think he just worded it wrong.

This is obviously poor wording because at another point in the debate he talked about how his family moved to the US and was very poor living in a rent-controlled apartment. 

So, considering Bernie labeled his white family growing up as "poor," he clearly would not believe that people who are white don't know what it's like to be poor. 

This is a case of someone taking someone's verbal slip and trying to use it against them to imply a belief they don't actually hold.

Are you trying to say that the guy who marched with MLK and was arrested for his protests for civil rights is manipulating the black community into voting for him?

If he's supporting the minority community to manipulate them, then man. He was really in it for the long con, wasn't he? Started that manipulation way back in the 60s.

I think he supports them, i just think that little part there was totally his team telling him to say it cuz Hillary is winning the minority vote. Like it was a little over the top and very not Bernie. I blame his team, not him
