In all honestly the process sounds like a mess. Primaries are so smooth. Just go vote whenever and get out. DONE. 

Also, idk why but I see many states where they still use paper ballots? Are they even in the 21st century? Here in Texas we use those voting machines.

I can see that being an issue. Haven't heard any issues at least in my state, yet. Or I'm just not aware.

When you arrive you sign your name on paper and then they give you an access code for the machine but I don't know if that access code is recorded as being under your name... I can't remember.

I can help clear this up a bit, it's incredibly odd and confusing.

A caucus is an "active" voting process that does not include paper or ballots at all. You arrive by a designated time and "cast" you vote by grouping together in your candidates area. You are then physically counted. If your group has more than 15% of the vote at your caucus location you are considered "viable". This means you can earn some delegates and "qualify". If you DON'T, then your group needs to disperse and join other groups that will cheer/chant/persuade/deal etc. Being made non-viable happens, and has happened a few times already. The other candidate then gets the total of the delegates up for grabs. Ties are broken in crazy methods like coin tosses. There are often many shady things happening and so are usually filmed by people trying to document to limit shenanigans. The delegates from your precinct then are added to that of all the other precincts, and then are converted into the proportional "state delegates" that you see awarded on CNN results etc.
