President Trump 3,508
I know it was originally gonna be decay blonde poo star but what is the theme now? Nothing? Failure? Her ARTPOP could mean anything? Why did she go from a theme to having no theme at all? Ma ma pa pa pa
tomsches 17,388
She realised that it would have been dull to release 12+ songs about the same topic
Alien Tulip 12,428
Never liked the album title "ARTPOP" because I was expecting something really experimental but instead we got recycled beats and half assed lyrics. The album title is so misleading.
MelbHawker 6,583
The theme of ARTPOP was never meant to be the decay of the blonde icon. What sort of wet dream. ARTPOP has no theme. Hence the lyric 'my ARTPOP could be anything'. I think the album's melodies were it's core theme; they were meant to be the album's hero.

This tbh, I really thought it was going to be a very experimental sound, but it was definitely pandering to the charts, and unfortunately didn't sound as fresh as some of her other stuff We have no legal choice but to stan
Pacify Him 9,073
It's all in the Aura song "Dance. Sex. Art. Pop. Tech (omg Intel teas)" I have a feeling that, as someone else said, the album went through a lot of compromise. She wasn't able to fully express her artistry in her songs but she made it up with the Artrave tour. So, to answer your question, it's more likely to be the latter. I’m getting on your nerves

iAstroLeo 14,414
ARTPOP is about making whatever it is you want to do to express your emotion and pain.
eifulien 2,937
In terms of visuals - putting art before pop. A reverse Warholian expedition. Instead of putting the soup can art to the canvas, she puts the canvas onto the soup can. Best example - ARTPOP's artwork. It's a CD with a booklet. On it you have the Gaga statue by Koons, the Birth of Venus by Botticelli, and Apollo and Daphne by Bernini. It's so literal that the forums reaction/confusion is hilarious. Lyrically - it's her poetic journey as she goes through well-known topics for her, giving them her own personal view - FAME FAME FAME, love, sex, drugs, travelling, the connection with the fans, the relation with the media, rape, FASHION FASHION FAHSION. It's pretty much in the vein of The Fame but it has that see what's underneath twist. Musically - it's a night at the club, a celebration of expression and passion, her pain exploding into electronic synths and beats. Heavy, energising, uplifiting, acidic. She's used many other words to describe it. But it's all about having a blast. While the decay is present if you follow the tracklist I don't think it's heavily emphasised. But realistically, ARTPOP is the album during which Gaga truly decayed, quite ironic!

Interscope is the one to blame.
LaLuna 12,732
I think the concept was initially supposed to be about bringing art into pop (hence the title) but it was rushed and wasn't as cohesive and powerful as it could've been, probably because of Troy. I think Gaga had a lot of ideas and hopes for this album which, sadly, didn't come to fruition. Which is probably why she's taking her time with LG5, she's not going to make the same mistake twice. Interscope is the one to blame. I couldn't agree more!!! Especially with the first image, I was so hyped when it was released, I thought the album was going to be all natural and stripped back maybe, or at least that the artwork would have a theme of that kind of photography (like how the other albums had one consistent aesthetic), and I was so pissed that none of these actually featured in the album booklet! And I especially thought that the visor thing she's wearing might have been a main feature of the album, but it was actually just random and had nothing to do with it We have no legal choice but to stan
