No you're right. I guess it's mostly the approach that is different. Though many people don't get what Gaga is doing and that's why this around this should be a clear focus fo us to understand her. To clear things up with her personna and really a statment about what she is, What Lady Gaga is. Because i think she got a bit side tracked. I liked her original concept of being a con artist. Seems like admiting that she uses people would not be good marketing. But i like it, and she only got "faker". I thik she wants to step up her game, it's all about commitment and not being afraid to lose some of the fans.

I hope in some months we can discuss this. If Gaga ever surpasses David Bowie or Madonna. Though they all did it for different reasons and in different ways.

I agree 100%.

Madonna had some changes during the 90s but it wasn't as drastic and shocking as Gaga. This isn't being a chameleon to me tbh.

Gaga is a chameleon, especially in the way she looks and that epic transition from TF to TFM and from TFM to BTW in her music.

WTF.

Madonna changed so much. From Streetwear Punk Girl to Virginal Who're, to Marilyn Monroe wannabe, to Deeper Voiced Call Girl with a blonde bob, to long brunette Catholic blasphemist, to classy Vogue girl, to R rated **** star S&M, to experimental hip hop baddass, to kabbalah middle eastern club girl, to dope female pimp cowgirl, to black haired revolutionist, to red haired disco goddess, to bad bitch workout woman with a candy fetish, to cross bearing cheerleader, to gold toothed pink haired middle aged trend hopper.

She literally invented transforming constantly for the girls and in her time what she did was just as, if not more controversial than Gaga.

Gaga has had amazing transformations within the avante grade aesthetic from disco, to Alexander mcqueen, to glam rock n roll stylings and has had a recent major transformation into a kind of classy glamarous thespian look. But she doesn't touch Madonna. At all.

She could one day. But she needs about 8 or 9 more MAJOR transformations for that to happen. In my opinion Gaga has had 3 major transformations (Futuristic look at first during TF/TFM, then really avante grade leather/lace looks (BTW), then really costumy ravy colorful looks (ARTPOP) , then the recent "classy looks")

Madonna has had 10....at least.

Gaga's musical aesthetic (and what critics often viewed as her 'shtick') has always been clear; a mix of 70's glam rock and 80's dance records. You can easily notice that with the first listen to all of her albums (The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way & ARTPOP). From a musical standpoint, you could easily pinpoint the basic similarities between all of her pop releases, for instance, take her repetitiveness when it comes to her song structure and lyrical contributions, that is evident in most of her discography. Meanwhile, with Madonna, she kept her audience on his toes for 30 years by adapting to a completely brand new musical recipe with each record, you can't pinpoint any similarities between most of her albums, that's why she's considered to be a chameleon-like artist. No other pop act in history has ever experienced such a mind twisting aesthetic change like Madonna did with Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer, I'm Breathless, Erotica, Ray of Light and Music.

I mean, I live in Gaga's day and age and I prefer her over Madonna, but come on. Basic knowledge.

There we go someone giving Madonna more credit than she deserves.

Changing her sound for one song doesn't mean much. Plenty of artists do that all the time and it can be quite a disappointment when it turns out that the album doesn't fit the same theme. Actually, you can find that older sound around to this day. It's not impossible to recreate. I mean, Carly Rae Jepsen brought out an album last year that sounds as if it was genuinely made in the 80's, so I think we can recreate an early 2000's sound very easily. She isn't new to trying an urban sound either. She tried a bit more of an RnB sound with 3am and Bang Dem Sticks had rapping and a definite Caribbean influence (this should have been a single, it's amazing). Then there's the RnB of Like I'm Gonna Lose You as well. I don't understand why some people are saying this is a totally new direction for her. She's been hinting at a more urban direction on her debut and with songs like All About That Bass and Lips Are Movin', she's always had a sassy persona.

Even the single cover serves 2001 teas according to some older stans.

You make me feel like an old woman. And I'm only 26. :toofunny:

Amen! Pure delusion at its finest to not understand this and Madonna. She's miiiiles ahead Gaga in both austics and musical reinvention. We'll see what future brings but parading in weird costumes isn't reinvention....
