NFL star Kam Chancellor tried to purchase a gym and employees called cops

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor said that gym employees called police when he attempted to purchase the business.

Chancellor, a Super Bowl champion and 4-time Pro Bowler, paid a visit to the Redmond Athletic Club in Washington with the intention of buying the closed down gym. However, two female employees noticed the athlete looking through a glass window and called police on him.

"They told the cops I was trying to rob the place because I was looking into the glass asking for help. I took a picture of the two employees," Chancellor wrote on Twitter. "Good thing the cops know I'm a good guy and stealing isn't in my blood. I work for everything I get."

The Redmond Police Department said that the incident was a misunderstanding in the following statement to Deadspin.

"On March 2nd, 2016 at 4:25pm, Redmond Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a local gym. Two female employees were inside the closed facility alone and reported that five adults were outside their facility, some were pounding on the door and looking in the windows with cameras, as if they were trying to gain entry. The employees reported they weren’t exactly sure what was going on, but the individuals did not appear to be leaving, even though the gym was closed for business."

After the incident, Chancellor continued tell his side of the story.

Yeah right. This wouldn't happen if he was white.

And he was alone, he was not 'trying to get it'. He was asking for help.

Oh I skipped that police statement, but from his tweets it looks like he was alone. Also he took picture of them, one of them looking disgusted? 

What's up with that? 

Is there a need to call cops if you're not even sure they're trying to get in?

Absolutely! If two women are the only ones in a business and five men are outside trying to get in, it's best to be safe than sorry. You can't really even go up to the glass and talk to people through the glass, because anyone can have a gun in the US. I doubt the glass was bullet proof. 

Hell, people break through brick walls now, because the Windows and doors have iron safety rails on them. Then criminals just back their truck up, attach chains to the truck and iron rails and pull off the security door.

He's known to have a bad attitude and to be quite the attention seeker. (Known for this in the NFL) He could just be pissed that he couldn't do what he wanted to do, when he wanted to do it.  

No one was hurt, arrested or anything. Two women alone have to be careful! If he really wants to buy a gym, go during hours of operation or look the number up on his phone and call and ask for a manager.

It's better to call the cops than to risk your life because "everyone will think I'm racist"... I don't want to get to the point that people will die because they were scared to be called racist..

Today you just need to be careful.. USA is full of crazy people with guns, some are kidnapping woman, raping them..

Please just think for a moment before pulling the racism card.. those things are delicate and can take people's lives..

About the disgust face.. well he's not the hottest guy in the world.. I would do the same probably.. not because of his color or origin, I would do the same for an ugly white guy, but because he's ugly to my eyes lol..

There's a Roseanne episode exactly like this 0.o

Roseanne and her sister are in their restaurant together, at night and they're closed, and a black man comes banging on the door. They're unsure of themselves and keep saying "sorry we're closed" but he refuses to go away. There's much more to the plot after that, but the point is that it forces them to face their own prejudices. On the one hand, racism likely played into their fears at least in part. On the other hand, as her sister rationalizes, they were two women alone in a restaurant with a man banging on the door. What are they to do?

Very, very complex issues. It's so interesting for me to see the debate play out in real life and on this thread after seeing the exact same thing on a TV show years and years ago.
