Supersonic 49,376
I think Beyoncé worldwide. I Am... Sasha Fierce will probably her legacy, I still hear Single Ladies in the clubs on heavy rotation 7 years after it got released. I think the rest of the world knows of Mariah Carey but they don't know ANY of her songs, unless you are an actual fan of her. I mean I'm quite fond of her since I heard We Belong Together (which only happened in the USA and flopped everywhere else) and I have gotten into arguments with hardcore Mariah stans on GGD because I said that she lacks iconic songs. But it's true. If you are not from the USA (and don't personally care for her), you have no idea about Vision Of Love or any of her other #1 singles there. The only one that's somewhat publically know is Hero.

Mariah might be bigger in the USA, but worldwide I think Beyoncé is way more popular. This said, I was still surprised to see how Beyoncé is really not as popular as I thought outside of the US (according to charts anyway). Seems like Gaga and Riri are two of the only current pop stars who are as popular (in Gaga's case even more popular in certain countries) worldwide as they are in the US. DiscoHeaven23 35,007
I think my favorite iconic fact is that Mariah has the #1 song of both the 1990's (One Sweet Day) and 2000's (We Belong Together). I mean...what kind of slay??

Oh yeah, All I Want For Christmas Is You! Forgot about that one. But still, Beyoncé just seems bigger here. Single Ladies, Halo, Beautiful Liar, Crazy in Love, Irreplaceable, If I Were A Boy and Sweet Dreams were just so massive in Europe. It has only been the last two albums where her success in Europe started declining because she was pushing more to an R&B/Hip-Hop ish direction while Deep House has been the craze here for 4 years already. KingRedd 3,139
Beyoncé. She has hits that new generations won't find "old school." She has more international appeal. She is known in almost every Country. She is a hell of a live performer, vocally and physically. Beyonce reaches many ethnicities and is more diverse. Mariah is already being forgotten by the new millennials. Ask a 10-16 year old about Mariah Carey and they will most likely not be able to name any of her hits. May I Read You? 😎

Compared to the extraordinary success it got in the USA (#1 year-end list, #1 decade end list, #11 all time list), that #92 year-end list position in Germany or the #45 year-end list position in Europe overall looks sort of measly. I admit I might have exaggerated to make a point but it's just that Mariah is not talked about (which is sad imo, because her songs and vocals SHOULD be talked about)
Killa 15,560
Is this even a question? You must be all kids, really. Pop music and hip hop wouldn't be like it is now if it wasn't for her. So, if there's no Beyonce without Mariah, i guess the answer is pretty clear. Yes?
